Went out on the lake with my friend. We went on an exploring trip. We went up and down the shore lines. In and out of coves looking for new spots and elimiating some areas we always wanted to try.

We casted, trolled and jigged. We caught a total of 40. The largest was about 2.5 lbs.

We did not see any shad. But we did see a few slurps out in the open water. Those fish in the slurps were only 6 to 12 inches long.

[cool]Hey stripercraze, I was out on friday in the floattube and saw several slurps in different coves. It was wierd when they would come right to me then go deep. And yeah they were 6" to 12" but I kept a few that went 1.5lbs apiece. Always good to go exploring.

I know this is a stupid question but what is the difference between a "boil" and a "slurp"?

Best regards,

A slurp is when the stripers are just inhaling the water and shad hatch at the surface.

A boil is when the stripers are chasing adult shad to the surface in order to eat them.

If anyone out there can explain it better please reply. This information is what I have been told. I hope it is correct.

I see. I think I know the difference from a visual standpoint. There have been times where I see nothing but a bunch of fish eyes (i.e., stripers). They all look like they're just taking a peek out of the water. This must be the slurp. Other times, I just see flashes of silver where I cannot discern any uniform pattern, i.e., a bunch of eyes staring at me. I guess this is the boil. Please let me know if I accurately described the visual difference between a slurp and a boil. The slurps tend to be smaller and they move around pretty fast. I've seen a lot of slurps at Gov't Wash.

Best regards,

Paul
