[cool]Hit the lake at 11:30am. Again there was no wind. I got a small breeze every once in awhile. Saw some slurps in the main lake but they were too far to kick the floattube to get. Went to another bay and was able to stick a 1.75 lb largemouth on a Gulp minnow grub. I was going to go across the bay to look for more LMB when I saw two huge slurps; they were each about a half acre in size. I broke out the 6weight flyrod at went to them. Finally got to cast at one and hooked up. Two seconds later POP. Sucker took my fly! While tying on another, the fish came to within six feet of the tube. Was able to sit in one spot and had the slurps come to within casting distance. I then was able to hook and land four stripers. I kept one and started to go back in. While going back I was able to cast to one other slurp and landed another good striper for tacos. Total, 5 stripers and one LMB. And still no wind. A nice hot day on the water.

Nice report.
Let me ask, you mentioned "slurps". Is that when the stripers corral up a bunch of shad near the surface and start feeding? If so, we call them boils here in Utah. [cool]

[cool]Hey Flycasting, I actually picked up on the term from wayneswords.com website. It is when stripers, usually small ones, are slurpping shad larva, which are about an inch long, they have pushed to the surface. And yes it does look like the fish are boiling on the surface. Most times the stripers are making a distubance on the water, like ripples. But some get a little excited and start splashing around.

I was wondering...if it wasn't too much trouble, could you post a pic of your float tube? Thanks.
Best regards,
Paul

[cool]Hey Mead_Stripers, It is a Caddis Navigator VI. I have used the economy model Navigator IV before with great success in lake mead,at Cherry Beach, and in Huntington Harbor both in california. It is basicly the same floattube but with different colors. The rod holder I made out of pvc pipe.

Hi BigE,
Thanks for the pics. That's a pretty sweet set up, you have there. So I assume you move around with your fins, right? No oars or motor of any type. Pardon the question but are you pretty much all wet from the waist down or are your legs the only part that gets wet? I've fished from an ocean kayak quite a few times out of Dana Point but I've never used something like your float tube. Thanks again for the info and pics.
Best regards,
Paul

[cool]Hey Mead_Stripers,Yeah, you use the fins to get around. It can be a workout when you stay out there for 3-4 hours and cover about 1.5 miles. I wear breathable waders and yes you are wet from the waist down. I don't go out in just swintrunks anymore cause you have to take alot of shore breaks to keep from pruning up. Besides, the breathables cool you down when you do take a break and there is a breeze.
