Hey guys, I finally took the plunge and bought a flat bottom duck boat last week. I would like to take it out tomorrow and was wondering if it was possible to launch at the ladders or somewhere close? I don't want to have to go across the open lake later in the day in case there is wind. Thanks for any help. Jake

I don't for see any problems doing that. I have seen drift boats launched form there. I have also seen people launch boats out of Chicken Creek as well.

Should be able to easily launch a flat-bottom boat there, especially with the shallow draft.
Personally, I don't think I would want to be in the open area around the ladders when those sudden winds come up if I were in a flat-bottom boat. They are terrible in the waves. I think I would stick to Chicken Creek East or Mud Creek where you are a bit more protected.

I agree with addicted2fishin. I was up there last Sunday and in NO time the "W" ( 10:30 AM) came in strong and fast. The area around the latters in just a few minutes had legit 2'-3' waves coming in from the South. A small flat bottom boat would have had difficulty if it was very far out. As I crossed around the island toward chicken creek side and headed toward the Marina, the waves got even larger; I know a few were 3'-4' from trough to tip. A small flat bottom boat would have been swamped out in that area. For safety reasons, I highly recommend small boats stay near the shoreline and / or in the protected coves and bays. Latters area is wide open and is prone to big wave action during high winds coming from the South. I would only go out there during the very early morning hours and start heading back to shore as soon as the breeze begins 10:30AM and the WInd at approx 11:00AM.

Thanks everyone. I agree with the wind. I was going to head out this morning for only 6-9 am for that reason, but got the message that my Grandpa is going down hill fast. When I make it up, I will let you know where I launched and how it went. Thanks again, Jake

It's not possible to launch a boat at the Ladders. [
]
Edit: Just so everyone really knows, it IS possible to launch at the Ladders...but you might have to lift your boat in.
sliverslinger: Sent you a pm.

Thanks to all for chiming in. I am glad that I stayed home. My grandpa ended up passing away at 9 am yesterday morning. It was good to be close to family. He was an amazing man and his legacy will live on for generations. I will get the boat up before long and have some away time. I'll let you all know how I do. Thanks again, Jake
