Outcast Cougar
#1
[cool][#005028]Hi there TubeDude - long time no chat. A while back we were discussing obtaining an Outcast Cougar toon. I heard that you purchased one & shortly there after sent it packing. What didn't you like about the Cougar? If anything what did you like about it?[/#005028]

I think he will be right back. I'm sure he just went in to do a quick "Download" or "Shorline Shuffle" as we call it.[cool]

If I hadn't already met you in person, I would say that you are sick or gross.[shocked]

Would you really consider doing a #1 on yourself just for the sake of staying in the water longer? eeeeewwwww[pirate]

[cool][#005028]You could get those new waders that has a trap door. They you could play being a B17 bombardier.[Wink][/#005028]

That would be murder trying to use a trap door and get through all the layers on a cold winters morning.

Are you talking about a trap door in the front or in the back??[shocked]

I can't wait to hear the answer to the original question. What are the downsides of the Outcast Cougar?

[black]I find nothing wrong with the Outcast Cougar.[/black]

It has all the bells and whistles, with some safety features that are not found on most kickboats. (Quad pontoons)

If there is a fault with the cougar is the use of vinyl for the bladder material rather than urethane.

Some people feel that because it has quad toons, that it has more drag than a craft with only two. I personally don't think that this is a problem.

If someone was asking me for a recommendation, I wouldn't hesitate to point them to the Cougar.

[black]PS: I'm sorry that when TD isn't on board to control the children, that every thread turns into a Romper Room.[/black]

Without having actually finned or rowed one those were my exact observations. I would have one if I only fished stillwaters. I opted for the Outcast 10 IR as I would like my craft to be riverworthy. Even though my toon also has a vinyl bladder and a metal rather than aluminum frame, I am extremely pleased wih it. It handles well with fins and responds very well to the oars.

A similar Outcast pontoon with urethane and aluminum components is out of my price range. (Or should I say the outlay would not sit well with the wife!)

[black]I think that the Cougar would make a good craft for moving water. A few years ago, I was fishing the lower Provo, and had three DWR employees come drifting past me on Outcast Cougars. They were checking licenses, and after checking mine, we had a little discussion about their ride. It was before I had a kickboat, and found the Cougar to be very impressive.[/black]

[black]If you look closely, the question about the Cougar was posed to TD, and his personal experience with it. Only when someone got tired of a few people stroking each others feathers, (which should be done either by PM or E-mail) finally asked the question, did I feel that they wanted an answer or opinion.[/black]

If you reread the postings made after the original question was asked, you see that the subject was quickly ignored, and substituted with the usual nonsensical dribble that often takes over the original question or anything even remotely related to the subject.

It seems that the person asking the question for the second time, wanted to hear an answer or opinion, rather than reading cute little coded personal messages.

The comments that I made were not meant to reflect a inconvenienced, condescending, or judgemental attitude, but just to hint at what other people might think when reading a thread, looking for something of substance.

... please dont misquote me or turn my words to your favor..

.. what I said is that because of the way you tend to belittle or be condescending when a comment made does not fit your outlook on the subject has caused me to tend to not read your posts .. to clarify.. it is distracting reading a post where information is given at the same time a comment is made to slight someone else on the board.. I did not say your comments.. when directed at the subject matter were not of benefit..

.. you say "Your remarks about my belittling others, comes from my disdain for anyone who spreads BS on subjects where they have no knowledge, and speak like they have expertise. Misinformation has no benefit to anyone reading it. "

...in my opinion it is your disdain that is the problem ... you tend to be cynical and sarcastic.. sometimes acidic in your comments if that persons point of view.. or outlook on the sport.. or how they do a particular thing is not what you beleive to be true or the right way then it is the wrong way and you state it as such..

...for example .. you dont beleive that a person can cast a flyline any distance with a short powerful stroke that is used in confining conditions.. I beleive that you dont like this idea becasue you dont do it that way.. it is out of the ordinary.. it is not something that is done in mainstream fly fishing.. or any fishing style.... I am here to tell you that I have seen this done.. and was amazed at the result.. I am trying to get myself in a situation where I can learn this technique so that I may use in on the lakeshores in my area where casting space is limited..

... I wonder what your true opinion is on spey casting and equipment or the newer line of switch rods and equipment that are on the market and are designed to be an intermediate step between the traditional fly rod and the spey rod.. a type of equipment that may prove to be of great benefit to my situation...

... most people that post on this board are straight forward with their experience level .. I comment on my limits constantly so it is understood that I do not have the experience level on all topics.. but I DO have a great desire to learn.. and in order to learn I read.. ask questions..make comments from my limitied experience.. all in hopes of learning more..

.. you do have a lot to contribute to this board in a variety of subjexts.. it would be a shame for you not to post..but, again, to me your posts are less meaningful if you take shots at someone else posting..

... while the comments on the wader conditions may not of been in line with the original topic, they did keep the topic alive.. so that others had the time to make comments on the subject at hand..

lastly.. I know that no matter what is said you are not going to change the way you post.. you are way to set in your ways to allow this to happen.. with that in mind I will simply discontinue this discussion with you since in reality we are doing exactly what you are the most pissed about..and that is continuing to make comments not related to the topic at hand..

.. in the future I will look forard to your input and try to do a much bettter job of ignoring your cynacism and narrow point of view on topics or comments that you consider to be out of "norm" for fly fishing.....

I can see the TDs children are having such a lovely time. It is time to put an end to the bashings and negative comments here.

If you are uncomfortable with a subject at hand, it is better to keep ones own negative comments to ones self.

We are all on this forum to share in one way or another. There is not 1 person that knows it all but there are several people here that have some kind of expertise in the field.

TD just happens to be the top expert in the field of tubing after doing it for so long.

Let us keep the forum friendly so that we can all play like adults.[cool]
