Scofield 11-24-07
#1
Had a late start in the morning, I believe we launched around ten but the other boats had cleared a path through the thin sheet of ice so it worked out ok. Spent a couple hours trying to locate fish and/or deeper water. Hooked a couple bows and the deepest water I found was 19'. I haven't been to Scofield for about seven years and don't remember it being that shallow.
Myself, ebass, and my buddy Nate finally found fish, alot of fish, in 8-9' of water. Threw the anchor out and fished minnows and worms catching some fat bows and cutts, and one released tiger that ebass got-it was a meat hunt. We ended up with about 35? boated fish and all kept a limit to throw on the smoker. The ice is going to take over the lake within the next couple days. Water temp was 34-37*. I attached a pic that's not in the post, is it a cuttbow?

[cool][#0000ff]Good report and pics.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I doubt that fish is a cutbow. Looks more like winter/spawning colors for a rainbow. Just because there are some orange slashes on the lower jaw does not mean cutthroat heritage. That was one of the big issues at Strawberry before they changed the wording in the proclamation. There are pure strain wild rainbows in drainages that have never seen a cutthroat that have orange slashes under their jaws.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You will likely get other opinions...but opinions are just that. Without disection and some fishy wishy biology CSI it cannot be proved or disproved.[/#0000ff]

Actually, yes. Cabelas' provided the new smoker and Scofield provided the fish that are smoking as I type. That trout I had at BL was really good, had to get some more [Smile].

Definitely a rainbow!!! The spotting shows no cutthroat genetics. That little slash doesn't mean it's necessarily a cutt. Smile

I was just curious, I wasn't implying that I thought it was, I just didn't know. This fall has been the first time I've targeted trout for several years and have been trying to get in touch with my 'slimy side' [Smile].
I'm going to hijack my own post here. Does anyone have a pic of a native Utah cuttbow?

Hard deck fellers should be smiling I fished it yesterday (Sun) from my pontoon (only one on the water) 80% of the lake is froze it even looked as if someone had been down next to the dam drilling holes ! No more boats as both ramps were "iced" in.
