Mora vs. Lazer?
#1
Just got a new 6" Strikemaster Mora auger for Christmas, but I remember hearing someone say that the Lazer is better. Anybody have an opinion on which is better? Is it worth returning to get a Lazer instead or is the Mora just as good? Thanks!

I've never tried a Mora. But no one else has replied so I thought I would just mention that I REALLY like my Lazer. It's very fast for a hand auger.

In my opinion, it is worth going back for.

I have a 10" arm strong Mora. A 8" arm strong Mora, and a 10 " Lazer.

I like the 10" Lazer better mainly due to the fact theres a small engine on top of it. On the flip side, I like to pull the Mora's in the sled better. But on the flip side of that, I have machines to do my pulling.
Wait, what was the question? [Wink]

Seriously tho,, I have tried both a hand lazer and mora. I found the lazer was faster. Was it faster enough to cause me to run down and buy one to replace the Mora's I have,, NO.. But thats just MHO..

I have a 15 year old 6" Mora with sharp blades and I just got a new 8" Lazer and they seem to me to cut very similarly. I can get a 2" larger hole with the same energy output. I often get two people working together on my hand drills and we went through 7" of clear ice in about 20 seconds with the Mora and 15 seconds with the Lazer. If it were me I'd be happy with your Mora unless you want to spend and extra $30 or so. Just keep your blades sharp.

Well, I just hit Cabelas and swapped it out for the Lazer for a little extra dough. After suffering through last season with a dull Eskimo piece of junk, I figure that if it can save me any hassle at all it's worth it.

I would like to eventually get a power auger, but can't quite justify that one yet...don't even have a jet sled to pull it around anyway. Thanks for all the input. It's always nice to know that I have others' experience backing my not-so-experienced decision.

Hope to see some of ya'll on the ice one of these days.
