Hit Rockport today with luv2hookem and my father in law. Ice was 4-5 inches thick. We Iced about 20 perch and a few rainbows and one chub. Best bite was between 7:30 and 9:30. We were in 30' of water using green Kastmasters tipped with mealworms. The perch are really big this year. (9"-12") No need to drive to yuba for large perch!

I was there today as well and I would agree that reports of the demise of good Rockport perch fishing are premature. I was able to take home a perch limit and got several porky ones up to 12 inches also. I think what I liked to see almost as much as the big ones was that I caught fish from several year classes. This bodes well for the future. Got 3 bows also up to 14 inches.
Best results for me were with rat finkees tipped with perch meat. Early on, fish were a little more shallow than usual, but moved deeper as the morning progressed.

Ok guys as I said in my post a couple days ago going out on the 2nd. Where are you fishing Rockport? Was debating between Rockport and Echo but last year was so slow on the perch bite at rockportI was thinking Echo. I will have ayoung ice novice with me and would love to show her that ice fishing is fun. I think as long as she is catching anything she will be happy

I fished it today also. I had the 4-wheeler. We fished in 48' of water and had a heck of a time catching fish. They were very picky for us. Caught 13 perch and 1 17" bow. 3 of the perch were like the one in the pic and the rest very small.

I parked at the 3rd bathroom / parking lot on the west side. I walked down to the lake and headed north about 300-400 yards to where I was lined up with the rocky point just before the bay.

i fished it sunday in the storm. i caught 10 that size and 3 small ones. missed a ton. i was using a jigging rapala so the small fish wont hit it as often. tipped with an eyeball. trick on the trout is to use small white jig with waxie then ad one ball of fire. drop 10 to 15 ft. limmit up every yr if i even decide to fish for them most trips are for the good eating fish.

I was there as too. I started just a little right of the boat ramp in 40+ feet of water. Fished there for a while and then went way north and fished for a while. Went back and finished up the day where I had started by the boat ramp. Yesterday was my 4th day fishing there. Here's a summary of the 1st 3 days:
27th - Rockport 3-perch, 3-browns, 1-bow Met the Russian!!!
Echo 17-perch.
29th - Rockport - 20-perch, 5-browns, 1-bow
31st - Rockport - 20 perch, 0-trout
I have to agree the perch are in fine shape. All age classes represented with some real fat 11-12 inchers.
I had trouble with the suspended trout. I would reel up to them, but no bites. Anyone have the same problem?
I caught every thing with a brown gizzy bug on a black jighead tipped with a meal worm.

Suspended suckers...that makes sense. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I even set up a second pole with different setups to try and entice a hit. Most of them didn't even slow down. Thanks
