Lake Mead Friday am.
#1
Friday, 01/04/08- Hit the water early. Headed to Las Vegas Wash in the dark. Spent about 45 minutes tossing the net for shad. We had the whole place to ourselves. Caught one here a couple there until we had a couple dozen.

A few shad made it into the well today. It was tough finding shad compared to a couple of weeks ago. Headed out to the mid-channel bouy near Gov't Wash and started fishing with live bait!

Enjoyed a great Lake Mead sunrise on this cold cloudy day.

Also tried something new to us.

Action was steady for 2-3 lb. stripers until the shad ran out!
Packed up and headed for Saddle cove.

Plenty of folks line the shore and several boats line the coves. We hung around and tossed swimbaits for about an hour. Nothing. We did'nt see anyone land a fish.

Wind picked up quickly, making the ride back to the marina wet& wild! Off the water by 11:00am. What a great day on the water!

Hello BaySport,

Still a better day than I had. Did you catch the crawdad with your net? Did you catch a fish on it? Hope to get out soon! Maybe the weather will clear up this weekend.

Naw, did'nt catch it in the net. My pard, Don, brought a guest with him and he had a few crawdads. I did'nt ask where he gets them. He said he catches large mouth bass with them and wanted to try them deep for stripers. No takers. Live shad was the ticket until the few we had ran out.

[cool]Hey BaySport, what time did you cruise by Saddle? I was out on the point a couple of times casting in brown neoprene waders.

We did not arrive until around 9:45. The guys that were with me did'nt want to quit the live bait until it was gone. They were not interested in the trout plant anyway. Too bad, I was looking forward to checking out the trout plant. I've never been on hand when the trout have been dumped and wanted to see it. Don't have anymore Fridays off until after the plants are through. Next time I'll go alone or take someone who is into it. I'm thinking about a Friday night trip to Saddle Cove and Pumphouse Cove, if it is calm, for some casting/trolling. One thing I did accomplish was getting a good idea of the area so I can move around at night. Several of the small coves have shallow points that drop off steep. The AC Plug for Xmas is ready to get wet!

[cool]Hey BaySport, you got there before I showed up. If you go at night, watch out for the point closest to the floating outhouse. I can wade fifty yards or so. Its a nice ridge for the stripers to work around.
