Went down to the grand river here in Grand Rapids. The river was high and moving quite fast. Warm weather melting all the snow and rain has really pushed the river up. There was also a fair amount small branches and other debris in the water making fishing from shore difficult and wading somewhat dangerious. I stayed just long enough to test out the new waders and wet a line for a few minutes. Conditions are expected to get worse as temps will be mid 50's tomorrow.
ps.. waders worked great. Not sure who invented neoprene but I'd really like to buy them a beer.

Ditto , it keeps my skinny bird legs from freezing , lol !
Couldn't find my hardbottom shoes , had to use the felt bottoms .
It brought a new meaning to the words "snow boots " . I felt like I had watermellons on for shoes climbing the hill at Tippy !

I was bouncing bags and waxworms , . I still can't locate my flybox !!!!
Did pretty good though , landed two out of six battles , gave them to a guy that just wasen't having any luck at all . He had some 20# test line on and couldn't cast without a birdsnest developing before the line hit the first guide on his rod .
Weekends for fishing are under the guidance of the wife , (that is depending on how much I whine and mope around the house ).
I can usually let you know by friday afternoon for a saturday or sunday .

20 lbs? wow that is a bit of overkill if you ask me. No wonder he wasn't catching anything.
I might run up to 15 lbs during the heavy salmon run, mostly because I hate re-tying all the time. In my experience, it seems like salmon would hit a fly tied to pier rope if it was in their way and pissed them off enough. Not line shy at all. Steelhead on the other hand are completely different. I run 12 lbs most of the time but if they are stuborn and not hitting I'll go down to 10 lbs. I've seen it make a difference.

It's taken me quite a few years but i'm down to using 4,6, and 8# test . 4 and 6# for the crome and coho , 8# for the kings .
I do a lot of retieing[unsure].
The positive side of the coin is that I get more hits ,even in the afternoon when other guys are casting for hours on end , i'm fighting fish [cool].
Cabellas has breathable waders when it gets a little warmer or in the early stages of the king run , the waders come with a 1 year guarantee , no questions asked , return for free replacement . A guy can have new waders every year !
Neo's are my prefrence but those breathables have their fair time in the water too !
