Questions for Flaming Gorge????
#1
I fish Flaming Gorge around fifteen times a years one week long trip, and the rest two or three day trips. However I have never fished for burbot, and was wondering where to go, what depth to fish in, how deep to fish, and what to use. I was also wondering how thick the ice is between Lucerne and Horse Shoe Canyon, and if there are any good reports of lakers from that area. I would really like to go burbot fishing this weekend, so any advice would help.

Take a look at some of the other post's. FishManiac801 posted areas that him and friends fished and done well. Don't know what depth he was at but some where around 40 to 60 feet I would say.

Yes, the board has been FULL of burbot posts for the last month! Where, when, how, all the secrets, pictures, and then some. Everything you should need to know. From what I've heard and read, the safe ice is only in the north end, though my wife says its "gosh darn flippin' cold" in Manila right now. (Thats BFT speak). I don't know much about cold though when you're talking about ice and stuff. Cold is 55.

No ice at Lucerne. Some in the Horseshoe area, but Sheep Creek is still open. There's better numbers for burbot uplake. Ice is down to Marsh Creek as of last weekend, and should build more the next few days with daytime highs in the single digits.

I would fish areas uplake, Holmes Crossing, Big Bend, Buckboard, or Lost Dog, all of which are easily accessible.

The burbot technique is pretty much the same.

Depth- around 20ft of water (try shallower too!)
Location- off rocky slopes or points
Time- after dark
Lures- glow-in-the-dark tube jigs and grubs, 1/4-1/2 oz.
Attractants- frozen sucker, anchovy, minnows, etc., sprays and dips
Tips- recharge glow jigs, keep bait fresh, and stay warm!

Hey thanks, So depth should I have my lines? I am just looking for shallow rocky areas, and to fish at night. What size of tube jigs should I be using and what color.

4in, glow seems to be the best, and charge it up quite often. try a few rods at differant depth. like 1 at 10, 1 at 15 and so on. keep you lure about 1in. off the bottom and just dead stick it, and tip it with sucker meat. hope this helps. later chuck
