So last Sat on the Jordan river I spotted two guys fishing on one of my spots (right in front of willow pond) I could see they were drinking something and I didn’t think much of it just kept on going and went to another spot. So I went back yesterday just for a walk and noticed that the spot had all kinds of beer cans and trash (hot dog rappers, and jerky rappers cigarette butts.) Who can I call next time I see this, now I know they can’t smoke and drink because it’s a public park so someone should be able to do something about this. And I hope this guys are not members of bigfishtackle.com but if you are you need to clean after your self and respect others properties I know you wouldn’t like it if someone did that at your house.[mad]

I hate that. I already feel a little dirty fishing the Jordan, but when I see trash it makes it a lot less enjoyable.

Just out of curiousity where does it say that they cannot drink there because it is public land? I recently read through one of those "community ponds" booklets that lists every pond in Utah and a select few had listed that drinking was NOT allowed, but most of the others did not mention this. Does that mean you can drink at these other places? I know at the Roy pond I have wheeled my cooler down to the banks, fished, kicked back, enjoyed a cold one and even had the Fish Cop come up while I was sippin one back ask for my license and didnt say anything. Anyhow, that still doesnt make it right for those dirtbags to litter!!! I would have no idea how you would report them since you would have to prove that it was their trash and all, but good looking out on your part though. I always take a couple Wal-Mart sacks with me when I go fishing and walk around and pick up some trash, no matter if I take my boat or not I will still take a couple minutes and do my part!!!

I dont know about the whole drinking/smoking thing on public land, but I do know the JR attracts some serious dirtbags that have tendency to leave their shizz all over the bank.

It sucks but as sportsmen we do need to do our part and clean as we go. You could have gone over to the park attendant and asked him to keep an eye on the people drinking to make sure they clean their junk. The camp host stays right by the entrance of the park.

I know you dont want to get into the habit of tattling or babysitting other people, as they have responsibility to manage thier own actions, but some people just never learned respect or integrity and need some encouragement.

Just do your part even if it sucks and clean up what you can when you go out- in the long run it makes a difference and you can feel good about it.

[cool][#0000ff]It pays to read the posted rules at most waterways, to know who is managing it and what the restrictions are. The Jordan River Parkway is operated by the Salt Lake County Parks Dept. Many county parks DO have restrictions against alcoholic drinks. They definitely do in Utah County. Some BFTers got a ticket last year for having an open can of brew at Lincoln Beach.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Also, many of the community ponds are regulated by city or county ordinances. They are not all the same. Again, it pays to read the info signs posted at each one.[/#0000ff]

My daughter, her friend & I were fishing the Jordan right where it runs out of UL, just below those roll gates west of the pumphouse. The girls were having a brew when Barney Fife & his buddy (county mounties) came across the bridge & ticketed them both. I hadn't had even a sip & asked Barney where it said that they couldn't have a beer there. I told him to just look around, there had to be 100 or more beer bottles and cans right around where we were fishing. He told us to go over to the park entrance and we would see a sign stating that alcoholic beverages were prohibited. As far as the rest of the trash around us, he said they would all have gotten ticketed if they had been caught.

We went to look for the sign & sure enough, there it was, all but hidden behind a guard rail and so faded that it was almost illegible but there nonetheless.

The girls took pictures of the sign & all the other beer bottles & cans laying around and took them to court with them. Still cost each one $150.00.

I almost always take a trash bag with me when I bank fish and clean up after the slobs. I'll be damned if I'll pick up one thing that isn't mine from that area again.
