Stay Off Of Mantua

you may want to stay off of mantua till ice off. According to the local news paper they have lowered the water level in anticipation for the spring run off.

[font "Times New Roman"][size 3]The ice floats on top of the water. Lowering the water will also lower the ice. But it doesn’t change the structure of the ice in any way. The edge ice will be sitting on ground instead of floating on water and will have a slope to it following the slope of the land underneath. Why would you think it unwise to go out on the ice under these conditions? Just curious.[/size][/font]

[font "Times New Roman"][size 3]Rising water and ice is another story. The shoreline gap between ice and water will be greater as the water level rises making it difficult and possibly dangerous to get on and off the ice.[/size][/font]

[font "Times New Roman"][size 3]I read that and agree, it was scary as Hell. But consider the difference between the banks at Pineview and the banks at Mantua. While Pineview banks are almost straight up and down, the shoreline at Mantua is a very gentle slope comparatively speaking.[/size][/font]
