This week has been very busy and I’ve been remiss in reporting the results of two trips to Echo this week. They were great trips and produced some of this season’s BEST perch fishing. And I have pictures to prove it. Let me start with the first trip last Monday.

I went by myself this trip and started out on the East side at the resort. The ride to the ice on my snowmobile was touch and go with the snow melt clearing half the lot and a lot of the snow on land. Got to the ice and the edge was FIRM. Drove about a half mile south of the resort and set up in 35 feet of water and immediately started catching fish. Nice fish! Eight to ten inchers. A couple small ones were damaged on the trip up to the surface, so were added to the pile. When I got a dozen, I loaded up and headed over to the West side were two other fishermen were parked. The first one I got to was none other than FishinPhil. He invited me to join him – so I did.

I finished out my limit of 20 by 2:00 and headed back to the truck. The edges were wet, but still FIRM. Went right over the edge without breaking through. Here is a picture of the limit on Monday. Oh, and I kept one trout for the smoker.

I went back up on Wednesday and met up with FishinPhil again. I brought my neighbor Tom along and we launched off the South Beach. Again, the edge was FIRM and there was no problem with both of us riding the machine and pulling two sleds behind.

We set up on the West side and started catching fish immediately. The bite would come and go and we were catching a lot of fish under 6 inches and they were all released. At times the bite was fast and furious with Phil catching two at once on one pole and yours truly catching one each on two poles at the same time. This happened more than once.

Phil left about 1:30 or so and we hung around until 3:00. I limited out with 20 fish right at 3:00 PM and Tom had 14 on the ice. Phil left with I think 18. Here is a picture of my 20. (One flopped out of the picture frame.)

We headed for the South Beach area and found the edge ice – you guessed it – FIRM. I little wet from the 35 plus temps, but firm none the less.

I expect to be back up there with the snowmobile at least two times next week. What days are you going back up next week Phil?

For all you folks that have put there gear up for the season, eat your heart out. The ice is STILL at least 2 feet thick and there is absolutely no slush anywhere. Snowmobiles are the ticket for travel to and from the fishing spot. Quads would probably also work with no problems in the early morning getting on and I’d guess getting off would be okay by keeping your speed up while transitioning the edge.

That’s it for now. Have a great weekend.
