Okay, so I've heard and read this alot in magazines and on TV shows and at Bass proshops and stuff...anyways, I've been a fishermen ever since I can remember...but I've always fished slow to moderate with good to excellent results. Recently, I've read about burning the baits and stuff but I've tried it at least once every outting and my results with burning baits is 0/0. I havent gotten any fish with it...maybe im doing something wrong? Anyone want to shime in on this? I do want to feel it hit while burning the bait but...no luck so far.

Try working a spinnerbait, buzzbait, or in-line spinner fast with your rod tip high so that the lure makes a disturbance on the surface. With the in-line spinner, you can just drag it across the surface with out the blade even spinning. Looks stupid to you and me but I have caugh many a fish in this way. Dard colors sometimes make a difference as well.

When it's burning outside thats the time to burn bait. [cool] Colder the water the slower the presentation. It's just another tool in your bag of tricks to fool the bass.

What type of baits are you burning. Like it was said earlier....burn spinnerbaits, buzz baits, and my personal favorite the lipless crankbait

Im burning spinner baits, Im guessing that its just not the right time. Im going to have to wait til the mercury rises to see if it'll work.

"Wait til the mercury rises". That's funny, here in Utah the mercury is rising unfortunately it's not in the thermometer but in the water...
Burning a deep diving crank on summer mornings on rock ledges cab be deadly.

Think of it this way, If you reel say a crank bait at your normal speed then speed it up by 1/4 speed or half again more then normal thats burning it....
Some baits you can burn and others go funky when you try to burn them...

I threw crankbait this past weekend. No hits yet, but just get it to the depth you want and crank SLOW. Jerk baits are the lure for this time of year. So many ways, so little time.[unsure]

yeah, I've tried jerk baits but with no luck. Just no fish in the area im thinking.
I have how-ever tried spinner baits with luck and I;ve hooked up some basses on Crank with jerking the crank twice and then realling slow and repeating that motion...dunno why it works, but it did.

Your right about the cranks, your working them like a jerkbait. This is the time of year that they shine. I'll do that till June up here and then it's a fast crank or burn after that. Summer it's senco for me.

I "burn" crankbaits for wipers and just last year learned the ins and outs of lmb and smb doing this. I fish buzzbaits almost exclusively for tiger muskies and burning it on these fish will yield almost nothing even when the water temps reach the 80's. A moderate speed has produced the best for me on average.[cool]
