I don't suppose this is news, but the ice is still in great shape at the 'berry. Kastmaster and I went up this morning (out of the marina). The edges are fine, and the deck is still firm with no slush going out. Sleds and 4 wheelers were on the ice but there weren't that many anglers out there today. There was some melting of the top layer during the day which made the walk back a little bit more strenuous, but still not bad. It was windy, but otherwise fairly pleasant.
The fishing was excellent for slot cutts in about 30-34 ft. A couple were probably slightly over the slot, but we weren't keeping (or measuring) anything today. The fish wanted a white cutter bug tipped with mealworm. It markedly outperformed other lures today but it seems like the top lure for me is something different every trip out there. (I guess that is part of the fun.) No rainbows. It looks like the ice will be good for a couple more weeks, unless there is a heat wave, and the fishing is worth the trip.
