Pineview ... musky 4-25-08
#1
[#002850]After reading about a few good musky catches on Pineview already this year, and Bait_Caster having a new Trophy fishing boat that needed some more breaking in, BC and I decided to try our luck for some musky ourselves. We were on the water at about 7:00 AM. Since I had a chance to talk to Jacksonman a couple days ago when he had caught a nice musky on what sounded like a bass lure, we decided to rig up for casting parallel along the banks where we had caught some before. Basically, we wasted our morning casting and getting nothing. So, about mid morning, we decided to switch over to trolling. Within a half hour, over along the south shore, I had hooked into a big brute but she shook me loose. Boy I find that frustrating!

The next hour, we were trolling over around Cemetery Point when I finally connected. But this time he was just a pup about 28 inches.

He had some great green colors but his tail was all torn up. I wonder why some tiger musky tails are like that. There is one bad mount over in Sportsmans like that.

The large musky took a small perch Rapala and the small musky took a large perch Rapala.

We had a great day fishing the View. The morning water was glass and the early afternoon was windy and rough.

We didn't get the water temp because of technical difficulties but I suspect that it was no higher than 50*.

Bait_Caster, thanks much for the great day fishing one of my favorite waters. Your new Trophy is SWEET to say the least.

Nice job Ralph. I figured this last storm string would have shut them down almost completely. Glad to see they are still doing the dam thing(pun intended). What bait did you cast with?

There is snow in the background... Hopefully that equals high water. The tail being torn up could be from other fisherman using nets if it had been caught before but I'm no expert.

Enjoy'd, having you join me in the Trophy; "Coot", It was good fun, throwing all types of ammo at the Musky's, I can't wait to get back on the View again. I had forgotten how they do that Gator Death Roll when landed by a net!! That was incrediable::[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [laugh] Lucky for us the hook came out easy, and Mr. Musky was sent on his way.
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]I enjoyed the boat & the way it handled the white caps, in the afternoon wind. That sure makes fishing a lot less worrisome, and a lot more fun. Not to mention, it does the Boot scoot buggie, when ya need to. "Tons of Fun".

I bought some of those wild eye perch lures too. Good price at Sportsmans. I wonder how they'll work.

What a great fishery we have there at Pineview. Some people travel hundreds of miles or even take guided trips to Canada to get muskies and pike, and here in the middle of our desert state we have Tiger Muskies over 40 lbs. Ray Johnson has caught and released some at 53 inches, bigger than the current Utah record of 38 lbs.

What is the World Record Tiger Musky?

The 54 inch, 51 lb. 3 oz. tiger muskie caught from Lac Vieux Desert by John Knobla in 1919. The largest caught by a woman is the 53 inch, 50 lb. 4 oz. fish caught by Delores Ott Lapp from the same lake in 1951. These are the only two tiger muskies over 50 lbs. ever caught. The State of Wisconsin claims the record for pure bred Muskies at 69 pounds and 11 ounces.
