Brownlee Report
#1
Sorry this is a little late. On 5/9 I went to Brownlee for the first time. I was with a friend and his nephew. Since this was my first time to this lake I wasn't sure what to expect. We put in at the top of the reservoir and motored down about 10 miles. We started fishing off some of the many cliffs in the area. Almost instantly we started picking up crappie. This was really my first time targeting this species. We found that chartreuse was the hot color although I'm sure we could have picked them up on just about anything. Fishing seemed to pick up as the day went on, especially for smallies. We ended up boating 3 fish over 2 pounds with the biggest going 2.7 in the smallie category. The crappie seemed to be average sized with a few going over 10". Most fish were caught in 10-15 feet of water. When we were pulling the boat out, I saw 3 groups at the fish cleaning station with dozens of cats. Seemed like the average size they had were 2-4 pounds.

I will be going to Brownlee later in the summer. Is there a place where a person in a pontoon can do well for Crappie?

I've asked myself that same question. If you have an anchor and or an electric motor, absolutely. If not, you still can pull it off, but you might get blown around a little if the wind is going. I was told that the water levels would be higher later in the summer also, which should make it easier.
