Good Taxidermist

Looking for a good, reputable taxidermist to learn from. I am interested in learning if someone will allow me to work for them. I will volunteer my time for free, i just want to learn the trade.

look up righnhart school of taxidermy. they how to videos. from start to finnish. birds. deer. fish. then if you want to go further look into other schools. like stephan savides in washington. best birds in the nation. he videos as well. and a 3 day school.[] i taught myself birds and fish.

thanks for the help guys i hope to find someone local i can work for (for free) even if i do his grunt work anything will be appreciated. Then after i learn some basics check out a school.

ya thats it. before you go work for some one you realy should try it your self. videos are around 15 dallors ea. realy not that difficult. birds are by far the best place to start. i started with fish. the hardest by far. thats why so many taxidermist do not do fish. not as mutch proffit in them either. feathers and fur hide alot of screw ups. lol ill try and post up some picks of my work later from home.

I used to do fish for people quite a bit. In fact that's how I bought my first boat! I used to charge a flat rate, regardless of fish size. I didn't think it was any harder to mount a 25" rainbow than a 19" one, so why should someone have to pay a whole bunch more?

My toughest job was a 45" northern pike that a client caught in Canada and brought me several good photo's. When you start with a rough fiberglass replica mold and have to fill and sand and detail and paint the whole thing.....Whew! I was glad to get that one done fer sure!

I learned how to do it by reading a couple instruction manuals and by destroying a few (of my own) fish.

I still have a couple fish hung up in the Riverdale Sportsman's that I did for Bill Furniss forever ago. I keep a couple in my office that I stuffed to. All skin mounts and going on 12 years old now. They still look as good as the day I finished them.
