Way to go and nice fishing.
There is a good alternative to the normal Steel leader.
There is a product out called Tyger Leader. I use it all the time for the toothy critters.
It is made from Kevlar and is very tooth proof. It ties just like any mono so you don't need special crimps.[cool]

You can join the Tyger leader to your Mono with a blood knot or double uni knot. If you are tying to Braided line then you will need to tie the San Diego, Tuna-Uni, or the Albright.[cool]

I've been out there three nights in the past week actually. Been getting a few eating size each time lately exclusively on leopard frogs that you can catch on the walk to your spot. Monday night we pulled in about 20lbs of cats from 8-11pm for the motherload of the summer for us so far. First my bro loses a chunker trying to pull it out of the water up the 2 ft bank. He didnt make that mistake again though. The 4 we wrestled up from the bank were caught smallest to largest, it was pretty exciting.
The 2 blues i'm holding up were caught on a nice retro 1970's wonderrod and my lightest setup r&r, both w/8lb line. So they both gave me great fights. The biggest one, ~7lbs i'm estinmating, is the biggest fish i've ever caught period, but i didnt even properly weigh or measure him, but the pictures and memory of that catch is all i need.
I've been fishing at that lake and the wapsi my whole life, and though i mostly go for cats, northerns and dogfish have really taken over that lake it seems like this summer. though i suppose the flood must have alterred the population of some fish to some extent.
What were you catching those northerns on? I usually just rock a 2" spoon and hook a leopard frog on if i can find one.
GL next time your out and dont throw back the dogfish.

Great Cats man! I sure haven't caught anything that nice lately! I should try some cat fishing though soon, I seem to stick with Bass and Pike. Although I could catche Pike and Cats on the same stuff I'm using for pikes. Mostly I use 4" Rapala cranks. I use Diving Cranks when I am on the river and not shoreline fishing. Sticks baits really haven't been working this year for me. I forgot to add Spinners! Spinners have been my tackle of the year! And Spoons surprisingly since I don't know how to use them effectively. But I would reccomend Strike King Spinners for any bigger game fish. Bass have been jumping on Jigs, Cranks, and Chatters a lot. Smaller 1lb to 3lb bass have been jumping on spinners too. Anyway, good luck dude! Keep up the good fishing! When I get a camera again I'll make sure to start snapping photos of my catches. See yall!
