The first step on tying up a dropshot is to tie the hook on with a Palomar knot. Then run the tag end of the line back through the eye of the hook so that tag end goes down and the point of the hook is up.

It will be close to 90 degrees but never perfect.

The stores do sell dropshot sinkers that have an eyelet to tie on to. If you are usind split shot type of sinkers then you can attatch anywhere between 1/4 to 1/2oz.

It is always recommended to use a single piece of lead to keep snagging on the bottom minimized.[cool]

Egg weights are good too as you said. I also like to use the drift weight. They are in the little sacks. I use them in the Owens river to dropshot for Bass.[cool]

One trick I've found is to slip on a bullet sinker, burn the end of the line, and then lightly crimp the narrow end of the sinker. No snags.

That is good for a quick release when you get bit by a large rock.

There is one more trick we use when we know that there are too many hungry rocks underwater.

I like to tie a piece of 2lb test to the weight and then attatch that to the end of my line. If the weight does get snagged then you simply give a good tugg on the line and the 2lb test will snap.

You can tie a new one and cast out again.[cool]

Yes Steve, that's the way to do it! My biggest bass is off a drop shot right in your back yard. Perris Lake
