I am going to visit some friends in the area on the weekend of October 18th, and we want to take a trip to Lake Casitas to try for some bass. I am from Utah, and have done a lot of bass fishing here, but I am completely unfamiliar with California bass waters. From the little research that I've done, I've heard that the bass at Casitas eat a lot of trout this time of year. Is this true? Any advice on what lures to use, what part of the lake to fish, or any other advice would be helpful and much appreciated!
Also, we don't have access to a boat. Is it possible to catch big bass from shore this time of year?
Thanks for any help!

Hey mjschijf. Welcome to Cali when you get here.
They haven't even started planting the Trout yet over there. Until then, you may want to bring along some Huddelstons or other large swim baits.
I'm not talking the little 4 and 6 inch like I used to use in UT but the 10 and 12 inch size. Fish the northern coves early or shoot strait across the lake to the bouy line. There are Cat tails or Tules as we call them, and the Bass hang out there early.
You can usually get the little 8 to 12 pound ones to hit there early and then the 14s and 16 come out by around 9:30 to 10:00.
They may start to plant Trout within the next week. If they do, be sure to bring the bigger swim baits for sure.
Small plugs and divers will only get you that. 12" Sluggos are the second best selection.[cool]

Thanks for the advice tubeN2! I will be sure to pick up some large swimbaits before I head out there. I've never fished with lures that big before, it should be interesting.
I'll be sure to post a report if I have any luck.
Thanks again!

No problem bro. I'm not sure that I will be in town or not on that weekend but if I am, I may decide to join you. I haven't been to that lake since Spring fling and the action is doing good right now.
We'll see when I get back from Europe.[cool]
