'Toon anchor systems anyone?

Anyone have a way-cool anchor system on their 'toon?

I know some manufacturers have a built in pulley center rear but depending on current/wind/fish location, that point of anchoring isn't the best.

Ideally you want two to lock in your position and orientation, however maybe a quick connect pulley or something to hook up to anywhere on your frame?

Anyone?

I use a 1 gallon jug filled with sand and water. I don't have any pulleys, though it would be a good idea.

I end up making a quick loop knot and tie off where it is convenient.[cool]

didnt DR at one time post about a nylon bag that he uses.. if I remember right he fills it with rocks or sand at the shoreline and puts it in his tube (that way he does not tote it a long way).. and when he is done he empties it at the shorline and stows the bag away..

Here's what I came up with - works well but I think there's still room for improvement, especially in the line storage/control area:





The PVC tee fitting I cut and it snaps right on any part of the frame of my 'toon. This way I can use the location of the mount to tailor the orientation of the craft to the wind.

The winder is a kite line winder card. A little undersized for the rope and amount of rope on it. Ideally I'd like a spool that floats but isn't bulky in case the whole mess falls in the water.

ive been using the nylon bag for 15 yrs same one 2. can put anything in it and the rope stoes in the bag. how mutch better do you want?

It's not the actual anchor that I'm interested in, it's the "system" including simple ways to:

- Control rope length
- Control boat orientatin
- Quick setup and breakdown
- Can't lose it

Only thing about the bag is I have better things to do racing daybreak than finding rocks! Also for the weight, the fluked anchor will hold more wind than the less dense and amorphous bag 'o rocks.

For a tube, though, most bags of rocks probably will work. Pontoon OTOH will most likely drag bottom with it unless it's HEAVY.

I use CHAINS! Then a small plastic cord reel that fits in my side bag.....holds great, but I also have pullies under my boat.

Well, lil' bro, I use about a 4" QUICK LINK, then attach links of 2" x 1" maybe 5/16th chain. Or I should say strands of chain. Maybe 4 or 5 strands consisting of 3 to 6 links.
Holds great, even on moving water (but it will tear up the river bed), and never gets stuck.
My rope is clothes line rope, 50', marked at every 10' .
I have one pully mounted under my seat, the other at the oar riser. I then mounted a rope stopper on the frame of my boat to hold the rope.

sounds pretty simple and easy to me.. how much does it weigh??? do you use that only your toons.. or do you use it with any of your tubes?

It can. Not on the tube. I don't really use the tube much. Not on the Navigator either, it is pretty easy to control without one.
