SAGE Z - AXIS ROD 4PC-590
#1
[:/] For one it cost $. For two the darn reel seat comes loose. For three theres no dots to line up your eyelits. And the real seat the gloss finish looks like it was done in china. I went back to my old RP SAGE ROD!. And looking for change.

WOW! From others I hear the Z is the answer to all fly fishing[Wink]
Personally, it wasn't for me, but not for any of the reasons you mentioned.

The VINTAGE stuff is great. I have an LL and love it...but the new is focusing on stronger and lighter, and that IS where the Z shines.
Check out the BIIx. Not AS fast as the Z but I really like the action. More all around.

Thanks Flygoddess I will look into the Vintage stuff. what you think about ST. CROIX rods the legend ultra this rod out performed the SAGE Z on my trip to Alaska last June I got it on sale at sportmans for $199.00 not bad its a U907.4. And the G-Loomis 9#8-4 rod was great but I payed top dollar for it. it pulled in a nice king 25lbs on 25lb mono line and a open face reel[pirate]. James F when he had hookfishing store sold me this rod it was a good buy. The river I went to is the KANEKTOK river I have lots to tell about the trip in my next post. by the way we had no guide crazy [pirate] but fun.

I think that the Z Axis and the St coix are in a different class That being said, I am not much of a fan of the LU rods any most weights. But the 9' 7 weight is a great rod. I have one myself and it makes a great drift boat rod for throwing streamers or great big dries with droppers.

I still think that the SP 590-2 is the finest casting rod Sage has ever made. Personally I am a fan of Scott. I have thrown just about every Sage, Scott, and Winston out there and I like the Scotts best for most trout fishing. If you like dries and soft rods the G2 does that as well as any and for faster actions the S3/S4 cast incredibly well.

Is it troublesome to look down the rod and get the eyelits in a straight line? I have an old Loomis 6 wt that has been great. I've been looking for another rod, sounds like you don't like sage.

Try Bamboo...you have to get it right from the word get go. No twisting once they are together. No dots either[laugh]
