Island Park 01/17/09 (pics)
#1
My brother and I came up from Utah and got to experience our first Idaho ice fishing trip. We have family in Idaho Falls and Rexburg, but for their own safety I will not disclose who they are. (word has it that outsiders are not welcome). Anyway, lets get to our report. We arrived at Island Park Reservoir around 6:30 and started fishing around 7. It was pretty slow to start out and iced a few in the first few hours, but really got into em around 11. We ended the day with 12 between the 5 of us. All Rainbows. 5 were in the 15-18 inch range. We used jigs tipped with night crawler and meal worms. We had all our success about 10 feet down. Had a great time. Can't wait to get back.

Great pics and report. As for outsiders not being welcome, that's not entirely true, until they move here [Wink]. Unless they catch more fish then the locals, then all bets are off!

Not sure if its rude or not but will ask anyways. Got some friends coming in from out of town and want to take the kids fishing up in Island Park. I see you folks are catching a few fish and was just wondering what would be my best set up to use. I havent fished IP in a few years now.

Of the 12 fish we caught:

3 - bright yellow jig head tipped with meal worm
1 - bright yellow jig head tipped with night crawler
1 - glow in the dark tube jig tipped with meal worm
7 - glow in the dark tube jig tipped with night crawler.

The bigger fish were caught with the glow in the dark tube jig tipped with night crawler. Even though we were fishing anywhere from 10-40 ft of water, 8-12 ft down is where we caught all our fish.
