I decided to fish Newton again today hopin' for another Tiger! I got out on the hard stuff about 630. It took a while to get the perch bitin'. I fished one rod with a 2" Radical Glow tube tipped with perch...hopin' to entice a Musky, and i fished my traditional perch setup. I ended up catching about 75 perch...I kept 20 that were in the 7-10" range. I was also stoked to land 4 bass...one of which measured 18"!!!! When I first hooked him i thought i might have a musky but i was still excited to land that big guy. It was a pretty great day I packed up at 1 and headed home for some filletin! BTW...I fished about 150 yards north of the boatramp along the west bank in that cove in 16' of water...it's been a hot spot! The roads on the way out there were snowpacked but fine and the ice condtitions were perfect.
the first picture shows my bass on my lid that measures 16.5".

[#800000]Take US 89 towards Logan. When you come out of the canyon into Cache Valley, turn left on to State Road (SR) 23 to Wellsville and Mendon. Stay on SR 23 going north until you get to Newton. You will cross SR 30 (Tremonton to Logan) and then go through Cache Junction before you get to Newton. Stay on SR 23 through Newton until you get to 100 W (there will be a small brown sign on the right of SR 23 just before the intersection that says Newton Lake(?)). Turn left (north) and follow the pavement until you get to the south end of Newton Reservoir. The distance will be 37 miles give or take a mile. Piece of cake.[/#800000]

If you turn right when you get out of the canyon you will be headed South not North. I think you meant turn "left" not right!!! Maybe I have my directions all messes up too!!! Heck from Brigham you could just head up toward Tremonton on 15 and go east from there too!!!

Newton is full of crappie, but lack size. Since it almost dried up in 2002, its recovery has been good but the size of crappie are around 8 inches. Occasionally I catch bigger ones. I have found one spot where I can do so around June. They are in there but I think there are too many little ones and little perch. Competition for food is constant. I remember having 100+ days of catching crappie and 4 of those would be decent to keep. It is a bit disappointing. Good luck and let me know how you do!

Is there more than 1 boat ramp? I went up there last saturday and it stunk. I went around that area and it was totally dead for everyone. The boat ramp we went to was on the north side by the dam. I'll have to try again.
