Increasing Henry Lake Limit? Back in the 1950's and 60's the average trout in Henry's Lake averaged two pounds in weight( IDF & Game fisheries report). I believe it has been estimated by the department that there are between 1.5 to 3 million trout in Henry's Lake. According to prevailing fisheries science a body of water can hold alot of fish at a smaller size or a smaller quantity at a larger size of fish. Anotherwards there is only so much food to go around. Would it be useful to increase the limit to three trout to increase the size of the fish, and would fishermen be overall happier with increased size. Just wanted to throw the thought out and hear your ideas.

I read some where that they grow too fast to usually live longer than about 6 years. If that is true I don't imagine they will much bigger than they already are. I would think there is still alot of food in the lake. The bigger fish will eat the chubs.

So, I'm by no means an expert on Henry's. I've only had two good days there, but from what I can tell the average fish there is over two pounds. I don't recall catching many under that. (again I'm no expert on Henry's correct me if I'm wrong)
I think the fish in there are allowed to get that size becuase the limit is only two. It gets hit hard enough that an increased limit could really take a toll. My oppinion is like somebody else said on another post, if it isn't broken don't fix it.

I don't mind the two fish limit . I just wish I could punch holes in the ice all winter long . I had a post about this earlier and someone suggested a draw system . So there would only be so much pressure . I think thats a great idea , and maybe could generate some cash for fish and game ? Curt G.

I agree. What they are doing now is working, so I wouldn't change a thing. (Unless they added some kind of limited draw for ice fishing, that is.)

I also agree that the 2 fish limit seems to be working. Why try to "fix" it by tweaking things when people still rave about how good it's been. Especially the last 2 years. Both years I keep hearing how it's so much better than it's been in a long time. That tells me they are doing something right.

In a discussion with one of Idaho's top F & G Fishery biologists (regarding kokanee in Lucky Peak), he pointed out one of the prime rules in fishery management: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I am sure this rule applies nicely to Henry's Lake these days. Mike
