Utah Lake Fishing rules??????
#1
Is there some new law for Utah Lake that I missed about how many rods per person. Now I purchased a license and a 2nd rod license which if I am correct that allows me to fish with 2 rods, Right? The reason I am asking is there was an asian guy fishing with 8 rods and he was all alone, he even told me that a few weeks before the fishing was so fast that one guy could only handle 4 rods at once!!!!!!!!! I wonder why the fishing has slowed down over the last few years!!!

Those guys are affectionately known as "locals" and most of them have no respect for the law. They will snag the heck out of the spawning walleys, and take truckloads of white bass out of there. Now I know the bass have no limit, but let's use a little common sense here.

I'm sure TD has some great stories about this population as well.

Turn him next time and anybody else you see the Law is 1 rod and 2 with a second pole permit 1800-662-DEER is number.

I know in allot of different countries especially Asian one's there is no rod limit so granted giving him the benefit of the dought maybe he Confused. Allot of times just educating them is the key but if thats not your thing then ya just call the rangers.

Wy do all us asians have to lumped together?? There are plenty of asian people who follow the rules and regs...you just happened to find the ones that are the "bad apples" There are always a bunch of "bad apples" in every race of human beings.

Oh yeah...and there are also a bunch of other races that litter and leave their trash.....why does it always have to be blamed on asians?? I'm sick of this crap and thats why I hardly post anymore...and if you have a problem with me I've got plenty of people to vouche for me on this website! Heck...not to make it a race issue at all but I've seen plenty of white guys that leave their trash and junk everywhere!! Hell....I've also seen plenty of other folks that have kept every single whitebass that they catch....

Next time do the right thing and report it! I've done it to people that I know....and will never sit aroundand tolerate that kind of behavior from anyone!

I think you need to calm down and reread them. They were talking about people ingeneral not just asian people. Well maybe the guy that said asian culture, but I dont think he meant to be racist. Lets all calm down and go catch some fish.

I was just saying to educate the ones that don't know and cite the ones who don't care I agree with you fully about every race having there "bad apples" Im not trying to point out just Asians. Regardless of race I tired of people treating these lakes & rivers like a used car I say bust them all regardless of of race.

My biggest beef was Tibble Fork Res & AF River they use to be awesome fishing & camping areas now I rarely will go there too many "bad apples" now Wish they had a rangerstation there with a ranger posted 24\7.

The bad thing about af canyon is there is supposed to have more rangers and more people picking up trash thats why we have to pay them six bucks every time someone go's up there. Its Sad because that is a beautiful canyon and great to teach my boys how to fish and have fun

Maybe some of you need to proof read your posts prior to posting them.
If you DIDN'T mean to SINGLE out a certain group, than maybe you should mention so in your original post. Reading some of these posts one can only assume that you're referring to all of the ASIAN community that fishes at Utah Lake. I really didn't see any comments about the Hispanic Community or the Caucasians or anyone else. But Scott brought up a good point that there will always be a bad apple in every group, so lets single those people out not everyone in general.

Just a thought from me. I think it is a great thing when anyone takes a pickup truck full of white bass out of Utah Lake. There are two many of them. A few years ago when you caught them they would be real nice fatties. Now they are all small little dinks. If I do catch one with any size to it they are so skinny they are not worth filetting. Fishing for the big cats in the summer has gotten to be a pain because you can't keep a line in the water for all the white bass hitting. Maybe I'm just prejudice against white bass because when I'm fishing for the walleyes and finally get a hit and it turns out to be a white bass, well that's disappointment. It is everyone's personal choice to keep fish or not but I for one will keep every white bass I catch from Utah Lake. It is my way of helping the fishery out. Does anyone know why they have gotten so overpopulated in recent years. Is it because less people fish for them after the issuing of the fish consumption advisory?

That's happened to me several times. The fish cops just never show up. I turned in some people bank fishing at Jordanelle last year. They were keeping every SMB bass they caught. All were over the size limit.

That is funny... Why cause I have called them on five times and they have showed up every time...

Next time you try this: tell who ever you talk to that you are waiting for the one that is coming to call you with his/ her arrival time and you are waiting for them...

Stay and watch and take pictures lots of pictures and if they leave get there licenses # and take a picture of the car or truck....If they know you are waiting for them to call they will come...

Ah, an excellent thread for rhetorical deconstruction and cultural sensitivity critique here. Am I perfectly calm? Yes. Have I reread the thread and responses? About ten times. Now there is enough of a communication artifact to provoke an in-depth rhetorical analysis. So the thread started with mercuryman stating that "there was an asian guy fishing with eight rods and he was all alone...." Hunterneilson immediately replies that

them are the people that cause all the problems with
fishing at utah lake the[y] have no respect for the law
and they leave all there garbage behind it makes me
sick if you see that kind of thing you should report it
that is poaching.

In this response, the word "them" overtly DOES stereotype and is a direct reference specifically to asians since it is a direct reply to the prior post which specifically mentions only an asian angler. The tidbit that these people cause "all" the problems is stark and blatant evidence of a stereotypical assumption. The notion of stereotyping refers to inherently incorrect, all inclusive assumptions about co-cultural groups of people in society. Here are a few examples to illustrate stereotypes. All blondes are smart. All men lack emotions. All white men can't jump. All mexicans are criminals. All flyfishers are snobs. When one assumes that all people of a particular co-cultural group possess a certain characteristic, that assumption is always problematic on several levels.

First, whenever you say always.....well there is always an exception. Furthermore, the entire stereotype being constructed and reinforced here is very negative and derogatory towards asian anglers as a whole. They are being labeled as not just evildoers, criminals, and poachers, but they are the EPITOME of ALL the negative elements from poaching to littering. Wetfoot's response is extremely insightful.....not only are asians stereotyped as horrifically destructive and uncaring about the environment, but yes they are singled out as absolutely THE worst ethnic group. This is clearly not anything about people in general at all. Note that there are no qualifier words within the original responses whatsoever. It doesn't say many, a number, some.............but it does say ALL THEM asian "locals" snag fish and keep them in excess quantities. No generalizing here.....pure negative stereotypes being conveyed and reinforced. Sure we have a black president, but is social inequality a thing of the past? Not the case at all.......social inequality is very much alive and well. It will always be a constant struggle for more egalitarian ways of thinking.

[#008000]Let's wrap this one up on the high note provided by [/#008000]

[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]One thing I would encourage is; as has been stated and reiterated, if one witnesses an unacceptable situation that should be addressed, there are people in charge of doing so in an official capacity. It is appropriate to contact them via the poaching hot-line at 1-800-662-3337. If you can't remember the number, it is published on your Utah Fishing Guide (which you should always remember to take with you). [/#008000]
