I'm going to paddle my kids
#1
OK, not the way my dad paddled me.

I'm taking my wife and 2 daughters out for out first canoe day trip this thurs. It's a big fiberglass canoe and I have an elec motor but I need a new battery and this week $$$ is low, so I need to paddle. (And by "I," I do mean just me doing all the work.) I've been out shore fishing a few times this year but not necessarily to places where I want to battle big water and wind.

Who's been out to some areas conducive to this type of excursion? Decent fishing to make it fun for the girls. Reasonable drive from the SL valley for a day trip. If the Mirror Lake Highway area is good that is about as far as we can go that day (planning on a camp out up there in a couple of weeks anyway.)

Thanks for helping me paddle my kids [Wink]

I would recommend Causey Res.. I haven't been up there in several years, but when I still had my canoe that was my favorite place to take the canoe. There aren't any official boat ramps, so the only watercraft you will encounter will be vessels in which they hand launched. Hopefully this helps!

I haven't been up Mirror Lake Highway yet this year but I would go to Lilly Lake and use a spinner or fly and bubble while paddling those kids. Good catching.

Mirror lake is a great choice, you can usually always catch fish in a canoe. Paddling is just the right speed for trolling as well. I was up there yesterday and there is a little snow around the edges but not much. We caught 35 in 4 hours from shore.

good luck if you go
