Sand Hollow June 11-12
#1
So got out there about 5pm on thursday.. setup camp and got fishing about 6:30pm. Did some waste deep wading and got a few hookups in the first hour using 4 1/4 inch candy corn stik-o's rigged weedless. 1-2 pounders mostly and a couple really small ones. Took a nap and when the wind died down at night got out on the water in the inflateable and did some night fishing. Man the night fishing was insane.. changed worm colors to black and purple flake and upped sizes.. Got hooked on 2 really nice fish right away..both snapped my line..I dont know if you guys have ever tried spiderwire xxx mono, but if you havent.. stay away from this line.. I was using 12lb test and it was ultra weak... I tie really good knots and every knot with a decent amount of pull on it was snapping at the hook... enought ranting.. Got back to shore to switch rods. Grabbed my baitcaster with spiderwire ultracast fluoro and got back on the water. Hooked up on 5 or so decent bass all over 3lbs. I think the big ones come out at night haha. Had to keep the bigger one in the pictures cuz I snagged his gill bad...On friday the fishing slowed down. Was catching fish at about 1 an hour, so I switched up to bluegill. I could have easily caught my limit if it did not get so windy. Caught about 30 in an hour that were really decent sized and headed back to shore. Overall a good day. Got about 7 lbs of bluegill filets to fry up!

Awesome fish dude! Looks like a good sand hollow trip.

Hey- Don't throw out that fishing line just yet!!!!

The biggest problem with braided line is that it slips- I would bet money that your line didn't break, but that the knot slipped out. Try it again, but everytime you tie a knot, use a lighter to burn the tag end (just make sure the flame stays away from all the other line). This creates a small bead of melted line right past your knot that will keep the knot from slipping. I had some problems with braid when I first started using it, and that lighter trick fixed all my problems.

On a side note, I do prefer a braided backing with a fluoro leader about 15 feet long. You get the best of both worlds.

It wasnt braid. It was that spiderwire xxx mono. I bought it for my extra spinning reeel before I had left.. it was like 7 bucks and It was spiderwire so I assumed it was going to be strong coming from a reputable company. Serves me right though... I always use good fluorocarbon and the one time I use mono I get crap haha.

I havent had a chance to use braid yet. Been meaning to give it a try one of these trips though.
