Strawberry and Deer Creek 07/27
#1
We decided to try our luck at Strawberry for Kokes. We launched on the soldier creek side and started trolling with RMT at 30-40 feet. After five minutes my dad trolled over a submerged Island and cought both riggers on the cliff. The trolling motor quit and he fired it back up catching our metal rigger line in the prop. [mad] The wind was blowing hard and the rigger acted like a anchor. The riggers just about ripped off the boat from the wind pushing us. This was when I knew it was going to be a good day. The fishing sucked we only caught two bows and one cutt. This was the worst day I have had at the berry in about 5 years. I could not believe how high the water was. After a while we said screw this and went to Deer Creek hoping for some success. Well, deer creek sucked too. We caught three bows before it got dark and left. Now I remember why I fish in the unitas in July. There were alot of people fishing in the dark at deer creek. Does anyone know what they are catching?

Yes, walleye, this is about when it starts picking up. Although this year is a little different because the water has risen so much. It seems alot different then years past. at least for me anyways, the water level is the only thing i can think of.

we have stayed at deeer creek late into the dark fishing for walleye. some times it's worth the stay and other times it's just nice to be on the lake without the skiers. Hope you marked the island in soldier creek on your gps. sometimes it's a good place to get kokes but you have to watch the downriggers.

Ooooh, tough break. Sounds like you brought Murphy along for your trip. He's been hanging around me a lot lately and eating my fly rods. It's almost comforting to know I'm not the only one.

At least you caught some fish though.
