when do you say its time to quit fishing bass tournaments and just fun fish
#1
Ok I have been fishing bass tournaments for 19 years and theres times when i say to myself why do i pay to fish waters that i can fish for free. I have had my share of winning and not winning. And I wounder is there a time to just say no. Im fun fishing from here on out. But i love fishing tournaments and the people are great and you can learn alot from other anglers. this is always in the back of my mind . I will never stop fishing but my tournament days are slowly coming to a end. [fishin]

A few times when I had enough of tourneys, I would fish the same lake and stop by and see the guys after the day was done. See who won, eat some food and talk up the guys. It let me have stress free days. Thats what fishing is all about.

I've been fishing for bass since the late 70's but didn't start fishing tournaments until '91. I mostly fish just club tourneys and the occasional big money tourney.

For a few years I was a member of three clubs and fished all their tourneys in a year. Talk about fishing a lot. Between pre-fishing and tourney fishing, it seemed like I was out fishing every weekend. The great part is that my son was my partner and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now my son is fishing on the pro-circuit with the FLW. He also fished the BASS Western circuit in the late '90's.

I enjoy the club tourneys because not much outlay in money and if I don't cash a check no big deal. I just enjoy the competition and fun. The big money tourneys I feel like I have to do good and it is just too much pressure and I don't enjoy it as much as the club tourneys.

I'm approaching 68 years old and still haven't decided to quit fishing tournaments. I belong to only one club now and have been the president of it for a number of years. I know that my tournament fishing is probably coming to a close soon but until that happens I will keep fishing them. I would say when you don't enjoy it anymore is the time to hang it up. So far I haven't hit that time yet.

I know exactly where you are coming from. This year I stopped fishing tourney's and just fished. it is refreshing to wake up and pick a lake depending on the conditions of the day Vs having to Pre fish tourney waters. I do miss the competition and will more than likely do a small club tourney before the summers over. but fishing has become fun again!

My dad fished tournaments for years while I was living on the other side of the country.. I finally moved back close to home with the intention of getting to spend some time on the water with him fishing..

It lasted a year.. All those years of tourney fishing burned him out and now he rarely goes fishing at all.. He even turned down this year's Canada trip after I offered to pay for it.. Turns out the drama of the trip made it a good idea to not go, but that's not the point..

Anyway, I've fished exactly one tournament, did well enough to keep trying, but then I look at how my dad doesn't fish any more and have decided that tourney fishing isn't for me.. At least not now..
