Condie 7/28
#1
Well, I almost didn't post based on the lack of response for information on my last post.[mad] I finally decided that, what the "hey", I'm bigger than that. Maybe folks just don't fish it, nothing good to report, just didn't notice the post, or maybe it was because it was a Ut. guy. I actually don't believe the latter. [:/]
Anyway, I happen to be one of the few, apparently, ?, that negative Info., reports are just as important to fishermen as positive. [Wink]
Got there about 11 ish and fished until about 6 ish. Water down about 5-7ft.. Fished the West side after coming in the back road from the N.W. end, around the dam and down the N. side for about a mile. Can't cover a lot of water in a tube and being old as dirt. Tried my standard wacky worm and reaper and ended up losing 2 big guys (break offs) in the weeds and 1- 14 incher. Not very good. tough fishun. Need to learn how to get them out of the weeds on a long cast and tubing over to try to get em released. Anyone have any tricks on 6# mono??? Not very good, huh? Fished shallow and deep. Hard to fish shallows with a drop shot rig but I did give it more than equal time.
Anyway, what I don't understand, is that I was killing them this time of year 2 yrs. ago. What's the difference? It can't all be attributed to higher water can it? Did we have a kill off?
I truely love this area beause of the lack of fishun pressue, solitude, etc. What's going on guys? Please, a little help, ok? [frown][frown][frown][frown][frown][frown][frown]

First I appreciate the post. Haven't been to Condie before but have been considering it, so thanks for the report. Next, I haven't a clue what's going on w/ the fish this year. It's not just that area. I've had trouble in all my usual spots w/ the usual go to set ups. I'm sure the extra wet spring is part of it, but there's probly something more as well that we haven't figured out yet.[crazy]

Thanks for the report. Like I said before I only fished it once in the Spring and it was ok then. I think now that the spawn is over the fish have spread out so it is tough to target them in the shallows. There are some extremely deep holes in that lake. They could be down there escaping the heat. On the other hand the few reports that I have heard are all negative. I hope people are just missing them. Condie should be very good given the trophy regulations.

If anybody else knows anything let us know.

Sounds like it was good I went somewhere else at the last minute instead of heading to Condie. I hope that it's just the high water scattering the fish. Things were good there in May when they were up in the shallows, but post spawn has been frustrating.

i havnt been there this year also. i was a bit frustrated last fall with it and havnt been tempted back yet. How thick is the cover? The one thing i noticed last year is when its hot like this the oxygen lvl in there gets low and the fish arnt as active. not sure that this is true but its just my thinking. My thinking doesnt mean much but it seems to get me by.

oh almost forgot how was the moss is it salad yet?

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying but 2 yrs ago there were lilies and weeds all around the N.E. bay and water was low and it was great fishing. This year the water seems higher but we still have water lily patches and weeds but fishing stinks. ?????? [frown]
Moss-salad??? Not sure again what you mean? I certainly wouldn't eat it. [laugh] Moss, weeds. lilies all look about normal.
Since I'm tuber and come in the back way by the dam, (limited searching ability), can anyone tell me a better area to try???? The area by the dam was always good to me before??? It's almost like we had a big die off or over fished??? Over fished just doesn't seem reasonable judging on the #s of people that I've seen there. [crazy]

I doubt it has been over fished since there is a length limit. It may be that a few years ago there may have been an issue with the weather or something else that may have brought problems on with the spawn and it may now just be showing up. When I fished it this spring, is was slow also and the fish I did catch were around 12"-16" I did not see many little ones in the shallows either. This time of year there should be tons of little ones cruising the shallows and around the willows. I am no biologist, but I would bet things pick up next year. It seems other places are having issues with this also. It may be the high water and cool spring that we had that may be causing the issues. Who knows. If you fish the other end at the dock, I had good luck by the electrical line support tower. Good luck.

Thanks Bud. [Wink]
P.S. Where is the electrical line support tower from the dock?

I did well back in May underneath the power lines. It's just to the left of the boat launch. There's a little cove there that's quite heavily vegetated. I think I caught 13 in a couple of hours in the 12-17" range, all quite fat and healthy. I used slug gos and flukes unweighted. They were definitely in the "salad." A lot of the fish would come in with a good pound or two of weeds on them. I attatched a pic where you can kind of get an idea of where I was fishing. Not that it helps much now, they really seem to have scattered. I haven't seen any smaller fish in the shallows there this year either. The other lakes in the area have tons of the little guys, but not Condie. I'm really hoping it's the cool wet spring and high water. Newton has been off this year too.

ya i was meaning the moss "salad". I like to fish that section north of the boat ramp when its thick. find a hole and drop a rubber worm in and jig it. I have also used it as a duck blind in the fall. bury my self in it and wait for them to fly over.

I did well for bass at twin earlier this year, i have also heard mixed reports from glendale (good luck with the boaters on both though)
