Weston Res Sep7
#1
We went out to Weston Res. on Monday for a few hours. Caught a few trout, some nice perch, and a bunch of the small bass.
My gripe is that while we were there we saw many people who were keeping everything that came their way. I know that a cooler full of baby bass is not exactly regulation. Isn't the place ever checked?
The regulation is 2 bass over 16" right?

Now I'm Confused, again. [:/] Nothing new. [Wink] I agree with what you said except keeping the small guys, 2 ea. Doesn't the basic reg. for all ID. waters of nothing under 12 in. apply??? Of all the many waters in ID, I think that Weston could allow keeping some of the small ones but I didn't think you can. [frown]

I asked the fish and game officer because I wanted to know once and for all what the regs are for Weston. It is two bass, either under 12", or over 16". So you can keep the little guys. That's what I would encourage everyone to do if they want to keep bass there. Thin out the little guys and leave the bigger fish. I don't know why people even keep the trout there. I guess they must like the taste of moss. People are pigs, plain and simple.

Oh yeah, I have been checked there twice this year. It's too bad they didn't stop by on Labor Day and bust those poachers.

Thanks for checking on the regulations for us. I too wasn't sure about the small ones.

But I really wasn't exaggerating about the cooler full. Admittedly it was a small cooler, but there were fish in there that were in the 12 to 16" range as well as small ones. There were more than two bass, or four actually as there were two people. I won't even mention where they were from [Smile]as I know it isn't everyone from there that is fishing illegal. And I really appreciate our out of state dollars. My hat is off to all of you out of staters who pay big bucks to fish in Idaho. Your dollars really help support our fish and game program. I don't think that we can do it without you. So when I see out of state plates I cheer - if they are legal. I doubt if these two were legal!!

I was annoyed that my cell phone couldn't get a signal!

Sorry-- just blowing steam!![blush]

thanks!!!! it's nice to hear a resident that recognizes and appreciates the horsepower and fuel that we put into Idaho's programs. My wife and I will be donating $500 to the cause come January!! Only 15 minutes from the border, I'm a spud @ heart anyway. Plus we do it all legal, and pack out our own trash as well as everyone elses, which is more than I can say for many residents. Thanks again!

I am a out of stater and follow the laws to the fullest but i think the problem comes when ppl come to new areas without checking the regs and end up breaking the law, weather knowinly or not.

I definitely contribute my share of out of state dollars to your great state. I am very much a by the rules fisherman and am constantly disgusted by people's lack of ethics. I wish there was a special license for people who live so close to the border. Five miles is all. The hundred bucks is worth it though. I hardly fish Utah. I was just reading through my fishing log for the year, and I totaled it all up. So far this year I've caught 1111 fish in Idaho, and only 201 from Utah. I guess that tells you something about Idaho. If I didn't like my house and property so much here, I'd probably move to Idaho. I still may someday. As far as Utah goes, I pretty much only fish The Logan and Blacksmith Fork, and occasionally I'll chase a tiger muskie at Newton since it's just down the road. Idaho is way better all the way around. I agree with you though, there are a lot of pigs that come over the border. It really irritates me when people blame ignorance for breaking the law. If you don't know, throw it back. Cell reception is really spotty up at Weston. It's too bad, I'd like to see those people busted.
