Need help for the Berry!!
#1
I finally convinced my dad to come to Strawberry with me tomorrow. (He will typically only fish community ponds and catch the planters from the week prior.) We will be fishing from the shore (I only have one float tube).

Any suggestions on a good shore location?

In the past I have had fair success around Horse Creek and Hawe's Point as well as near Soldier Creek Dam, but those outings were 1-2 years ago and in the Spring.

Any advise would be appreciated. If it is too slow it will be back to Willow Pond for our future fishing outings [unimpressed].

From shore is hard this time of year. I would try and get a two pole permit and through one out there with power bait or a worm and marshmallow, while fishing a white jig tipped with chub meat on they other. Cast as far as you can and let hit sink then slowly bounce it back to you.

I second that.

See my reply on 9-15 to "aloneone". I fish differently at Strawberry than most and it works great from shore. I would suggest fishing southwest of the ramp at Renegade or Horse Creek.

Good luck,

I fished the berry saturday. Couldn't believe how shallow the fish were. Had a slow morning but once we started trolling in water no deeper than 10 feet we killed them. If you are fishing from shore head over to soldier crick marina. Just before you get to the pay station stop at one of the little bays and walk down. It will be real mossy. That is what you want. At the edge of the moss the big cutts are stacking up to get at the minnows in the moss. Throw a worm and a bobber (minnow is even better) right out where the moss ends and hang on. I troll the berry and throw a lot of jigs and rapalas to but I find this technigue catches the most fish. I have caught the most over the slot fishing this way as well. October and November are the best months at the berry.

Thanks for the replies and the help. We ended up going by the dam on the Soldier Creek side and fishing for 5 hours. We landed 9 fish, and 3 others broke my line off (darn faulty reel that I was fussing with all morning).

All were caught with worms, 2 were off the top and 7 were on the bottom. We also tried dead minnows and powerbait with no success. All in all we caught 6 slot cuts and 3 bows (13-16 inches).

I think it was a success, my dad said that he was willing to give the Berry another try in a few weeks. Thanks again.
