Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'm new to this site. I'm located in South Jersey and as my username "JonBoatMan" would indicate, I love my 14ft. boat. I enjoy Largemouth Bass fishing and Carp fishing. I have alot of gear so if anyone in the South Jersey area is ever looking for a fishing partner let me know. You'll love my boat. I have more crap on it than some people have on a weekender boat. Two electric motors 30lb. on the bow and a 55lb. on the transom. Aerated livewell, swivel cushioned seats, two fishfinders, numerous rod holders, flipout cupholders. Even have a stereo with CD player. Anyway just wanted to say hi to all of you and hope to meet up someday and do alittle fishing.

Thanks for the welcome. WiFi? I'll have to look into that. In the meantime, I'll make sure I have my cellphone with me so I have internet access with me. Lol. Here's my boat that I love bragging about.

Actually, I didn't realize it when I first entered the site yesterday until I went to register. I never saved the site back in January and didn't remember the name after joining. I guess I just gave up. Where are you located?

Thanks, I'll give the rundown. 30lb. Motorguide footpedal on the bow. 55lb. variable speed Minnkota on the transom. Swivel cushioned seats. Dome light on both benches just below the seats to see in tackle box at night. Aerated livewell. Two small oval halogen lights on the bow to see at night and a halogen light on both sides near the back for shoreline fishing at night. Eight rod holders. Flipout cupholders. Two fishfinders, one on the bow and the other behind the front seat. Nail clippers attached to a coiled phone cord to cut line. Pliers mounted by both benches to remove hooks. Completely carpeted. To reduce weight I installed the pink hard foam used on basement walls for insulation and placed them in between the ribs on the floor. This way I was able to use a thin plywood on the floor and place the carpet ontop of that without worrying about the floor collapsing between the ribs and it weighs near nothing. I run the power for the motors with a deep cycle battery and keep a second one for backup. The lights run on a battery jumper pack. I have a bow light also on the bow (red&green). CD player with stereo speakers. Inside the front of the bow I keep a safety medical kit. Mounted behind the front bench is a large branch cutter (pruning tool with longer handles) in case I have to trim branches that get in my way along with a small survival shovel. A fire extinguisher and loud air horn are also on board and tools for minor repairs. Lifejackets are also on board. Hard to believe all this is on a 14ft. JonBoat, huh? The best part is it costs nothing to take it out over and over again. As soon as I get back from fishing I throw the batteries back on the charger and I'm ready to go again. Two anchors. Fishing net. An American flag proudly blows in the wind. Last but not least there is also an oar on both benches just in case the batteries fail.

well Id say you have everything on your boat except the kitchen sink and a porta potty.. :-)... that would be a great boat run around on the water with..
do you use it only for freshwater or have you done any salt with it..??

No, it has never seen saltwater. Just something I didn't want to subject the boat to. Funny you ask because actually I'm about 5 minutes from the bay and 10 minutes from the ocean. I live in south jersey near Long Beach Island and the bay is Barnegat Bay. I generally fish in a lake also about 5 minutes from my home. Some nice largemouth bass in there. My best is 6lbs. but I know someone who has caught a 10lb. 6oz. in there, just shy of the state record of 10lb.14oz. I do enjoy crabbing in the Barnegat Bay. Just a dozen crabs and I'm able to get enough meat out of them that my wife can make 7 crab cakes. Back in 1976 I crabbed there with my parents one night and caught (believe it or not) 144 crabs off the dock. The only reason we stopped was because we had two bushels and they were filled to the top. We had nowhere else to put them so we had to call it quits. It has never been like that since. Also that same year I caught an "electric eel". Yup, thats no BS. I scooped him up swimming along side the boat launch and stupid me I held him up over the water to show my parents and he lid up blue, a spark shot out and he slithered out of the net and back into the water. True story, believe it or not.

sounds like you have it pretty wired (no pun in tended) there.. I am envious.. maybe one day you will take it out into the salt... I went out with my son in law last year about this time.. we had a great time.. sculpin, mackeral, and ended the day with catching a bunch of spotted bay bass... :-)..

A few years ago I talked to an "old timer" on that same dock and told him about that year "1976" and he recalled it like if he were with us at the time. He knew exactly what I was talking about. He also confirmed the electric eel saying I'm not the first person to catch one there. I never even knew they could be found on the east coast. Personally, if I hadn't caught it I don't think I would believe they even exist. But they do. Practically in my backyard. Regarding the boat out in the bay, honestly I don't know if I'd trust going out there in my boat. There have been times I dropped the boat in the lake on a windy day and pulled it right back out because the waves kept splashing in the boat, so even if its not that windy, with the boat traffic out there in the bay I'd be fighting the waves and trying to keep from capsizing rather than fishing. The boaters out there have no mercy. By the way, I don't know where you're located but do you need a "boaters safety certificate" where you reside? You must have it here in New Jersey regardless of the size of boat. Any boat that is operated by any type of motor electric or not, you are required to pass a boaters safety course.

I was so wrapped up in you talking about your boat I forgot it was a jonboat.. and you are right you probably dont want to take that out in the salt.. :-)
Im out here in sunny southern California.. and yes.. if you have a boat.. for salt or fresh.. you have to of attended a boating safety course..
