Tubing lake Elizabeth today.
#1
Today was a very nice day for tubing, so I went. Lake
Elizabeth it was because I have not been there in long time.
Water temp 58F ,air about 75F, low wind. Just great[Smile]
I caught few crapies from 6'' to maybe 9''. Nothing big
but better then zero.
At one point the fish stocking truck showed up with
some trout. Oh boy. You should see the bank tanglers
all running right there . Not waisting time at all and starting fishing right next to the truck as the fish are
pooring into the lake. It was funny and disgusting
at the same time. They caught nothing of course.
I seen one idiot trying to use his net to get them. Yeah
thats fishing to him I guess.
Anyways, it was a very nice day on the water with
about 10-12 fish total.

great post Peter... looks like it was a good day for you.. especially with this weather we are having...

your story of the fish truck reminds me of when I a kid ... my oldest brother took me and his family to a large pay to fish area outside of St Louis... it was a series of large concrete boxes filled with water and fish... as we were fishing a fish truck pulled up and started dumping fish.. as you said a bunch of people moved as close to it as they could and did not catch anything.... we waited and you could see people starting to catch fish.. you could almost see the movement of the fish... as it got closer to us we made sure and rebaited and cast out again.. within about five minutes we all got bites.. I ended up catching a good sized.. maybe 2 lb catfish... I also missed about three more but it was a great day anyway...

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. Fishing is fishing and fish are fish. You gotta go when you can get away and take advantage of whatever is available. Enjoy every minute you get to spend on the water and don't measure the success of a trip by the size or number of fish alone.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Wherever there are fish being stocked by the agencies that manage fisheries you will find folks who get excited by freshly stocked fish. You have to feel sorry for someone who has been so deprived of fishing and proper fishing instruction that they resort to illegal means to try to catch ANY fish. But, I have to admit that seeing fish that won't bite can do that to even seasoned anglers (me).[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Glad you at least found some playful crappies. They may not be the biggest fish or the hardest fighters but they are definitely a fisherman's fish. I have caught fish of all species, all over the western hemisphere and I still like playing with crappies and bluegills. [/#0000ff]

Hi John

Sounds like it was fun then you were a kid fishing
those "pools"
When comes to kids the rule is - Whatever it takes to
put a kid on the fish [Smile].
Kids are so happy when they catch a fish. No matter
what kinda fish or how big. They scream, jump around and just happy. Good stuff.[Smile]

Thanks TD.

I never looked at those folks that way but I guess you
are right. Maybe they get to go'' fishing'' only once a
year and then its anything goes.
Im just glad that I have my float tube and I can
get away from all of that.

I know the ponds here, I have talked to several anglers that - that is there MEAL for dinner. Hmmmm, that would make even me try anything if I had to feed my family.
Just a thought.
But I am sure it could be other reasons, and probably is.

Meal for dinner ???
Maybe where you live because of the nice clean
waters. Or in Eastern Sierra.
NOT out of lake Elizabeth but then again, never know.
Sometimes I see people looking at me funny when
I let fish go. Maybe that is why. Hmmmmmm[:/]

Our ponds are no prize! People even eat fish caught out of the Jordan river....DEAD BODIES are found there (but I guess they are also found in Strawberry and Pineview)

But, tires, shopping carts, garbage....you get the picture.

At the pond I go to, a sign clearly posted as you walk up to the pond plus it is a law so has been on the news....NO SMOKING!
But cigarette butts line the pond and always 4 or 5 people puffing away.
Best was the old guy sitting right under the sign! Wished I had got that picture. Would have been a good ad in two accounts. Stop smoking and LEARN TO READ!

on my local lakes the law is that you cannot release trout back into the water... so when I caught one Id keep it no matter the size.. and on several occassions I gave them away to people next to me who were obviously wanting to eat the fish they caught... :-)

When I was growing up in the greater New York area I used to fish a nice local lake called oakland lake. It has a very diverse population of fish and animals for an in the city lak. I had personally seen LMB,bluegills, pumpkinseed, channel cats, chain pickerel, black crappie, white bass, ells and goldfish/carp. Plus very good sized snapping turtles. This lake was less than 1 mile for a major parkway so Its not what I would even consider out in the country. But I know many fished this lake for food. Now it seems all lakes are considered catch and release. Makes me wonder how they plan to not stunt the lake too bad. I even had some familycome complaine to me when I had caught a large snapping turtle and released it.

Mac, I have been on a good day on the pond where it seems I can do no wrong. I had a gentleman and his daughter move next to me but at a fare distance. I even mored a little more to the west and let them move in on where I was.
He said hi and I returned the pleasantries. He told me he had come to catch dinner, and commented on how easy I made it look. He was bait fishing and it wasn't working, so he sent his daughter to the car to get his ff gear.
I then offered to rig him up. I put my furled leader on, then tippet and the fly of choice. I also gave him a Thingamabobber because that is what I was using. Total, about $18. if he were to buy it in the store, but I make my own leaders and flies so no biggy.

I showed him how to roll cast and a few other things. See, here, we can't GIVE anyone a fish we have caught. You catch it, you keep it or release it.
I don't know the legal term, but it is illegal.
BUT, I could help this guy get his own, He did and it took about 15 minutes of my time.
