I hit The Narrows for a few hours today. It was a beautiful day, and while the leaves are winding down, it was still rather pretty up there. I started out fishing a #10 orange Turk's Tarantula with a #14 dark mayfly nymph that I tied up with some peacock ice dubbing for the thorax. That combo pretty much did the trick for the next few hours. I ended up with 19 bows, 3 browns, 1 cutthroat, and 3 smallies. The cutt absolutely exploded on the Turk's. The largest brown came from a very slow section where I've always caught smallmouth. I tried a small swimbait there for about 10 minutes and missed one bass, but a number of trout took a whack at it. So I grabbed the fly rod and the largest brown of the day came rising up from the nearly still waters and sucked it down. Pretty cool. While I was hoping for a little more bass action, the trout today certainly made up for it. If I could have caught a walleye and a carp I would have had a grand slam. Although I'm not sure the walleye are even up in The Narrows this time of year. Does anybody know if they are, or have they all moved down to slower waters?

Things have been busy, and I've been working a lot of day shifts which puts a damper on the fishing excursions. Sorry I totally forgot to call you back. I was out with my wife until late that night that you called.
The cutt was a rather nice surprise, and those browns were pretty fun. That biggest one bit me when I was getting the hook out and left three nice lacerations on my finger.

If you don't mind me asking how far up did you go? I have not been up there for a while and I am thinking about going up friday morning. Any tips on what part of the river to fish would be great. Thanks!

I did the best maybe 2-3 miles up. Up by the bridge and above it slowed down for me. It seems like that area gets more pressure, so that could be why. It may have just been that it was a little later in the day. There were BWOs coming off earlier too, and that could be why fishing was faster. Good luck, it's a beautiful time to be on the water.

Just bring some dark mayfly nymphs in sizes 14-18, preferably with tungsten heads to get them down fast.

Thanks for your help I had a great time. The fishing was really good. I did not find any big browns up there but locked into lots of little bows.

Nice, glad you had fun. I really do enjoy it up there, hopefully it never becomes a reservoir.

Great report! Beautiful pics! I might go play up there this weekend. The eye's are smackin pretty hard on the river right now spoons and jigs tipped with minnows and crawlers in Cutler area. Still haven't found Wanda my 32" beauty this year.
I remember last November fishing up on the Dam (Thanksgiving weekend) which was burry cold! I caught a few nice Eye's and SM in about 30ft - 40 ft along that rocky cliff right before you get to the campground. I remember having to work hard for em though with deep divers. My guess right now they'd be hugging the rocks and weeds a bit shallower for the minnows. We'll see....should be a great weekend for fishin!
Smiles Always!

Cool, I'll have to go chase some eyes. Cutler is nice and close. So is the area around Benson producing right now? I wish I could fish this weekend, but I'm stuck going to a wedding reception in Salt Lake. Yuck.
