Fished Tuesday and caught 6 fish . Fishing was slow , the fish have moved out into the main lake and are scattered . Tried several lures and found that they wanted #9 Gold Panther Martins . Probably done until the lake freezes over . I love too ice fish near the dam . Curt G.

It'll probably be iced over after this weekend. Another nasty weather front coming.

Curt69,
what ramp are you putting in at? I would like to someday troll Island Park. I have never been on this lake so maybe you can give me a heads up on what ramp is still good to use.
The weather forecast for this weekend is pretty windy but maybe sometime in the next week I can get out there.
thanks

It is going to take more than this little cold this weekend to freeze over IP. It takes nites in single digits to start the ice to start the ice

Mostly just grousing about the nasty weather we've been getting on the weekends. I can't play anyway. Still getting over the flu. If my stolen motor was still on my boat, and if the weather wasn't so foul, and if I didn't have a faucet for a nose, and if anybody would go with me after whining for a week, I'd go try Island Park again before the Global Warming fades. Most years it freezes right around the 12th of Dec. Some years a little earlier some years a little later. It takes longer than Henry's because of the depth and water turnover.

All of the docks have been pulled for winter . Most of the ramps are still are easy to use if you can launch without a dock . The closest ramp is the one by the dam . Go just past Ponds lodge and turn left . Go straight , don't turn left or right until your at the ramp . This is also where I ice fish because I don't have a snow machine , and they keep the road and parking lot plowed all winter . Curt G.

Thanks for the info curt69,
My wife and I are rookies with boats, but have been pretty good putting in and out at ramps with docks. my only concern is my boat is closed bow so I would have to get close to the shore with my tail end in near the shore to get my wife into the boat.
We have trolled ririe, gem lake and today we actually put in at Springfield resevoir. this lake is way shallow for sure. the deepest part we trolled was only 7ft most of it around 4. We were only there from 9-11 this morning. we hooked 8 and landed 4. No keepers but all in 16-19" rainbows. These fish were fighters for sure, they kept jumping a lot, even after netting them into the boat.
Brown trout rapala and gold spoon worked great. We tried a blue fox spinner there is to much moss floating around and getting jammed up. First time we actually caught consistently at this place. boat made all the difference for us, or we just lucked out and they were bitting good today.
if the wind dies down this weekend hopefully we will hit IP.

Put you wife in the boat before you launch it. Then after you launch it, you can climb up on the bow.

you are right buggy,
this old boat is really finicky to get started and steer, but maybe just with oars we can get in if she stays in the boat then I can figure a way to get to the boat. she is paranoid about starting it and steering around shallow and docks with the engine on. I'm sure we'll figure it out when the time comes to launch without a dock.

I don't know how much room you have in your boat . I had a closed bow for a while and it is a little tricky getting in and out . I found the best way is to use a small stool or a cooler as a step to get in and out of the front of your boat . Don't try to get the back of your boat close enough bank to get in and out . I launch my boats by my self all the time with out a dock . I tie a 16' rope to the front of my boat where it hooks on the trailer , then I tie the other end to the back of the trailer . Back down until the boat floats off the trailer and then drive forward slowly until the trailer is out of the water and the boat is floating . I hope this makes sense . Curt G.
