well just got back we headed out early sat morning and finaly hit the river at around 2:30 didnt have a whole lot of luck sense the river was looking more like a parade line with the boats and ppl lined up... but my buddy and his boy each caught one before we called it a day and headed up to make camp. sunday we hit a whole i had never fished called "the shute" and we did well as a trip but i didnt do very good we ended up taking 13 fish out and landed probly a half dozen more but i only landed 1 wild one. had probly 10 hooked but couldnt get them banked... but it kept my spirits high to see the others catching fish. I was helping my buddy land his reached down to tail it and it took off and his second hook hit my hand and broke the line. It felt like it was just under the skin so i was going to grab the fish again when i noticed the hook was in my hand clear to the bend!!! So i had another buddy land the fish while i though wtf do i do now!! All i have to say is thank heavens the hook was barbed clean.... i had to pull fairly hard to get it out but very little pain luckly. Any of you ever been hooked deep like that? Today was cold in the morning and we went back to the shute but fish didnt seem to be moving we did land 1 and have a couple more on as a group but i never felt a fish. headed home around 3. We stopped and ate at the lone pine there over the hill from Lomas i tell you what i fyou like a huge hamburger you have gotta try it.

I've been hooked deep a couple of times. The first time about a 12" bass hit a Pop-R and was hooked by the front hook. He flipped out of my hand and all of his weight buried the tail hook to the bend right in the crook between my thumb and pointer finger. The worst part was that I was maybe 13 and so my friend and I had been dropped off to fish. I still had a few hours before my mom was supposed to get us, and I couldn't really hold the rod. My friend kept nailing them and I just had to watch. That thing was not coming out. I tried hacking at it with my cheap Swiss Army knockoff, but it wasn't going to happen. I had to go to instacare and get the thing cut out. Strangely it didn't hurt at all.
Another time I was using a dry/dropper rig for trout and a decent brown took my dry. He slipped out of my hand while I was trying to pick him up, and he buried the dropper deep into my finger. I didn't have wire cutters with me, so I pushed the barb through the other side of my finger and mashed it with my hemostats and then pulled it out. The bad thing is that the material wrapped pretty far down the bend of the hook, so I had to really push and work the point out the other side. It was kind of unpleasant. I mostly fish catch and release, but I ate that fish.

I stuck a size 2 sculpin pattern deep into my thumb. Had to row my pontoon three more miles before I got out. Then my wife held my hand down while I pushed the hook through and bent the barb.

That is a dandy indeed for the Salmon River. Congrats, fish larger than 34" are very very rare. I too am getting very jealous and anxious to get up for some steelhead. I watched the dam counts every single day of the run, and have heard about 200 reports now, and I gotta tell ya it's been T-O-R-T-U-R-E!
That fish almost looks like it has been opercle punched in your pic. Once again, congrats on a beautiful fat steelie.

I was 12ish when my grandpa hooked me in the neck in his cast, he thought he snaged a tree and kept on jerking, and sunk it deeper, steelienut got a big luagh out of it, good for him i guess.
