Does anyone have knowledge of how the fishing is in Silver lake located above Tibble Fork. I am taking a camping trip in May, just wondering how the fishing is. I heard Tibble Fork get alot of pressure, so i was thinking Silver Lake may be better if the fishing is good....any help please.

I went up to Silver Lake Flat last september and only caught one 6 inch rainbow. It was fairly windy that day, so maybe that had something to do with my bad luck. Any way, I had much better luck down at Tibblefork.

We hit it right before Ice up and the water was loooow! Like 1/2 of the lake was gone. I think it should be rising soon, but we did ok foshing for the planter trout on standard stuff....spinners....worm under bobber. The fishing is usually better at tibble and I think it is stocked more often, but it is less crowded and nicer up there and the fish I have caught tend to be bigger than the average tibbletties. Good luck, and post your results...I think it should be ice free soon, if not already.

You may have a hard time getting up to the lake depending on when you go in May, and if you have an atv or not. Most years the gate is not opened until memorial day weekend. Make sure you check the fish stalking report as well. They drain the lake every fall to collect the run off come spring. I believe there are some camping restrictions up there as well. I think you have to be a 1/2 mile away from the lake or something like that. I would check with the forest service.

As indicated, unless the lake has had its first stocking, it isn't worthwhile. According to the DWR reports, last year the first stocking was on May 26.

Redfrog is right about the gate and the camping restrictions. The lake you can drive to is Silver Lake Flat and there is no camping or fires allowed within 1/2 mile of it. You can camp at Silver lake itself but that is about a mile and a half hike from Silver Lake Flat.

during the summer it gets a lot less pressure than tibble fork and i usually find it to be better fishing but it only gets stocked every other week unlike tibble fork that gets stocked every week even if the fishing is not good i would really really recommend going up there very beautiful scenery! another fun thing to do is hike up to silver lake it is a really easy hike and you can catch brookies up there and once again very very beautiful i hike up there at least twice a year! and if you are feeling really ambitious you can even hike to a lake that is above silver lake! so after it is all said and done i would start fishing at tibble fork and than go up to silver lake flat and check it out and do the hike!

You have been given great info so far. You can also use the search to find great info on this board. One thing I would add is that there are some hold over fish. Not many but a few. I have also caught a few holdovers in silver lake.

You can still drive up there can't you? Don't get me wrong, a hike is alllll good, but I have drove up there a few times.
Good camping also, as long as the Bears stay away....

[#502800]Sure, you can drive up to Silver Lake Flat, and there are even some summer homes up there, and the road gets very busy on summer weekends, with ATV's buzzing around and all that. I avoid it on the weekends myself, especially holidays. I think it's a much nicer place to be an a weekday.

There are three lakes above Tibble Fork. The one you can drive to is Silver Lake Flat although called Silver lake by many. There is a gate at the start of the dirt road down by the campgrounds that is closed each year during the winter and they don't open it until Memorial day some years. There is a trail that starts by the bathrooms at Silver lake flat that will take you up to Silver lake itself. No roads to this lake but a great hike and beautiful views. I am told there is another lake even farther up then Silver lake but I have never hiked that far up.

Your right about all the atv's on the weekends. What a nightmare some days. They don't allow trailers of any kind on the dirt road so everyone has to park at the bottom and ride there atv's to the lake.

Silver Lake above Silver Lake Flat also has Arctic Grayling in it, planted by the DWR as fingerlings in the last couple of years. A short but steep hike though, I've heard.
