the middle fork is actually bellow the city of salmon its down stream from the north fork so yeah any where in there you will get into fish. i will be there on sunday bellow shoupe in a white ford ranger with a topper on the bed if you swing by and see me stop and say hi.its still three hours per fish in salmon wich is insanely awesome for trying for your first steelhead.

Had a great day on the Salmon. Fishing could have been faster but the weather was beautiful and the company was great. Gotta hand it to all the huge crowds up there. Everyone was very well behaved! Not like these snobby fly guys down in Utah. Total mileage on the car was 1006 miles but it was worth it. Caught just one and we got 6 total between us. Thanks for the help again guys.

Now, the Idahoan's are always saying that the parking lots are full of Utah plates...what makes you think they weren't Utahns?

So what gear were you three using....all the details...please[laugh] What flies? 8 Weights or bigger?

Joni, I know they werent Utahns. I could see all their license plates as I passed. They were Montana/Idaho plates. I guess what I was saying it that on a river that cramped in Utah there would be all sorts of fights and whiners.

I posted a report with all the details on UFT/UWN. I dont actually fly fish very often. I was throwing a Shimano Compre with a Shimano Curado... Kind of hard to get a good swing and hit the bottom of an 8 foot deep hole with fly gear.

Hey Weekend Warrior,
This is off subject but how do you like that Shimano Curado reel? Have you had it long or used it much? As someone that uses a flyrod 95% percent of the time I agree Utah has too many fly rod snobs. Come on it's all just fishing and don't kid yourself getting the basics down in fly fishing to catch fish can be mastered by most 5 y.o. Besides while a fly rod is great for many situations there many where it's not nearly as effective. Anyway I'm currently considering getting a baitcasting rod and reel. Only have spinning outfits besides the fly stuff now. Was thinking about a Curado Fish Eagle II combo already. Just saw today Cabelas Club has it for $200.

The curado is a great reel and I have owned several but I got an abu garcia revo and it blows the curado out of the water plus it comes stock with carbon fiber drag washers. Paired up with my loomis 1082C its a damn good combo! Try one out, I'd reccomend the toro version.

I'm sure your abu garcia loomis combo is great but won't that cost at least twice as much. Gotta remember I'm primarily a fly guy and won't be using a casting rod more than a dozen days a year

I love my Curado!!! It has a high gear ratio for quick line pickup and its tough as nails yet light as a feather. I have had if for 2 years and its been great. I own the 200 D. The newest version I believe is the E. Its green, mine is silver.

I dont know anything about the fish eagle rods but my suggestion would be to get as long as you are comfortable with and a lighter action than you think you need. Too often people get baitcaster and think they need a 6 foot broom stick rod. Baitcaster reels are awesome but if you cant load up the rod on a cast, you will either get backlash or not cast very far. I like the 7 foot rods in a medium action. Sounds like a great deal at cabelas. I would jump on it.

When people ask me about level wind reels I suggest the curado or the Abu Garcia Revo SX. I have heard nothing but good things about those reels and have thrown one once. They are sweet. I'm just a shimano guy myself.

For steelhead you want a rod thats more like 8'6" or longer. Seven foot is a little short in my opinion. I personally like 9'6" for drifting and 10'6" for float fishing.

True... If thats all its for I would do that. I fish it for bass most the time and did steel head with it for the first time last weekend. I could have used an extra foot.

The only time i use a spinning rod now is when i sidedrift. Otherwise every application is a baitcaster!
