East Canyon Weekend
#1
Pulled the trailer up to East Canyon for a little get away weekend. Had my daughter, sister, and mom along, and my wife joined Saturday night. First chance to hit the water came Saturday morning when my mom got there with the boat. Was a windy day and limited fishing. Hit the water at about 11:30a and got blown off by 1:45p. In that time my sister and I boated 7 rainbows with probably double that many bites. We were trolling rainbow and brown countdown Rapalas. That turned out to be all the fishing Saturday as the wind did not want us to play.

Got up Sunday and there was not even a breeze. My wife told me to take my mom out for Mother's day so we hopped in the boat and started out again. Ended up picking off three very quickly but it died down after that. Went about two hours with random bites, but no fish. At about noon, caught three more in a five minute span. That was it for the day. Off the water and packed up the trailer by 1:00p.

Would have liked to try for Smallmouth, but figure its still a bit cold. Water temp was 47. Tried crawler harness for a bit with no bites, so stuck to Rapala. All in all, great to get away for a while.

Thanks for the report Brock, sounds like the catching was a little slow for the most part. Were there many boats out there while you were there?

It was a bit of a zoo on Saturday and when the wind picked up, there was a line waiting to pull the boats out. Parking lot was full when we launched. Only about 10 out there on Sunday.

We were up there on Saturday but left around noon. Fished aroun Taylor and had very little wind. Started off with pointers trolled on the surface and was catching a lot of small 10-14 inchers. When it slowed went to the downriggers with squids behind dogers. Catching didn't slow down but the size of fish increased significantly. Put the boat back on the trailer around non due to other engagements I needed to attend to, but all in all a great day.

Spent the weekend at the ECR condos. Out on the lake early Saturday morning around 7:00 to take my brother in law out for his first fishing trip on the boat. Spent most of the morning by the inlet with a few bites but no takers. I was using a white Panther Martin while my brother in law and boyfriend were drowning worms. Tried Taylors but the wind picked up and nothing was happening there. Did see a pontoon pull in a decent bow.
Off the lake around 9:30 to go cook breakfast for the rest of the family. Didn't head back to the lake until around 4:30 that afternoon due to the wind. Took the kids more for pleasure riding than fishing but did anchor off for a bit in the first cove on the right, decided to see if any bass were active in the cold water but no such luck.
Sunday we had brunch at the Lodge (excellent new managers with a great menu if your ever interested) then were headed home when we saw the lake was glasss so we decided to launch the boat. Brought in one 14" Bow on an olive and silver Panther Martin but that was it for the 3 hours on Sunday.
Glad you had some success with the trout. Talked to a guy at the docks that said they were having success with pop gear and a worm.

Sounds like a good time. Are the ECR condos on the far south end? I haven't been down that way and was curious what was around there. Heard there was a nice restaurant of some sort. Sunday was great. That is such a pretty area.

Yes the condos are south of the lake. The new managers at the Lodge seem to be really good and the food was great. I believe their hours are Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 to 8:00 and Sunday from 9:00 to 3:00, you should check it out next time your up that way.
