hey every one i went to lake powell last sat,sun and mon.. the fishing was as good as anyone would want.. and the weather was about as bad as the fishing was good.. saturday night spent the night in lost eden canyon trying to keep my boat from geting smashed to bitts as 80 to 120mph winds came rolling down the canyons and the mud comeing off the canyon walls and landing in my boat was not all that cool ether.. but on the bright side we were not smart enough to leve after that.. oh no!! we had to try night fishing stripers monday night.. let's just say right now that, that was a very bad idea.. mokie canyon with 100mph wind is no better than lost eden canyon[unsure]... so after that i said f*** this place i am going to fish lake.. got to fish lake on tus after noon started fishing mack run area not there 5 min's and my budy hit's a 6 lbs pup.. the fishing at fishlake is just about as good as it can get right now.. we trolled most the day and hit fish all day long..but at night is when we realy started hitting the fish.. we went to the cheese hole area and anchored up in 60 feet of water and put my undrwater light out.. we hit fish all night long splake, trout, and some pup's as well.. and the best part was there was no wind all night long..

Haven't been skunked at fish lake day fishing either,It sounds like the night fishing is excellent,the first time I went down we mostly trolled and caught rainbows and small splake,this last time I jig fished the two days I was there and we did great on larger splake,you really can't beat the fishing there,and the scenary is breath taking,deer everywhere,ospree fish eagles getting there share of the fish,three marina's,NO CHARGE TO LAUNCH AT TWO OF THEM,hehehehe.
I would like to catch a mac out of there,but have no idea where to look,I thought the splake I graphed in 72' of water might of been some mac's.but we only pulled up the splake.cheese hole was the location.
and I use 10lb fire line,can I get a large mac with this or do I go heavier,do I use a leader?will macs hit small lures or big lures catch big fish rule there.They have a 11" rainbow trout lure in the bait shop at bowery haven curious if anyone uses them.The first time I seen this lure,it was on TV,they where catching giant large mouth bass in mexico somewhere.

If you are catching Splake, you are in the right area for Lakers. A lot of folks have a hard time telling the two apart. Even when they are side by side in the boat, they look very similar. I had caught both for about a year before I learned how to tell them apart. The fork (or lack of) in the tail is about the best way to tell them apart. I have caught both on 6-17lb. mono. When I switched to Spiderwire, Fusion, or Fireline, I noticed the bite slowed a lot. the biggest I've caught there was just under 18lbs. on 8lb. Berkley Ice line (the blue stuff). The fish hit a chartreuse/white teardrop shaped 1oz. slab with a 2/0 treble hanging from it. Tipped with perch meat. Most of the macks I've caught there were between 50-75 feet down. I've caught them using curly tails, tubes from 2.5-6 inch, Castmasters, Crippled Herring, Crocodile Spoons, Daredevle spoons, and I'm sure I'm leaving some out. Weights from 1/4oz up to 2oz. When I'm fishing down there, there is always perech meat to "sweeten" my lure for macks.
