pinveiw crappie
#1
went to pineveiw this am, spent a couple hours fishing trying to avoid the swimmers and other recreators managed to catch two small perch, one blue gill and two decent crappie before the recreators became too much for me to handle and left. Cant say i didn't expect it to be this way as it is a holiday weekend. perch and bluegill were caught on a worm sent out to drift, one crappie was caught on a drifting worm and the other was caught on a green and red jig with a pink head. I always forget to take a camera with me and have one pic of one of the crappie on the cell phone.
Took my nephew out to pineveiw yesterday evening to fish after having to hear that "fishing isn't a real sport why do you take it so seriously" and taught him how to fish, he caught 6 perch and 3 bluegill before it got too dark and is now hooked[Wink] this was his first fishing trip and we were there for about an hour and a half, took him to a spot where i knew he would get them, they were all pretty small but whatever it takes to get them going.

Great, Detailed Report! Thanks for sharin'.

Awesome "conversion" story. Good to have some more young kids out on the water!

The crappie are hard to find at times. I caught a bunch of dink perch and some nice gills, but the crappie still swims....where?...I dunno i'll find him someday.

Happy fishin'

You know, I have fished pineview dozens of time in my life but I have NEVER caught a bluegill out of there. I have caught little perch, decent bass, and even some nice crappies but I would like to know where the gills are at. I normally fish in a tube in the north fork of Pineview....am I in the right area?

I went about a week ago and caught about fifteen bluegill in areas with gravel bottoms and brushy cover. I think they were in the spawn. They would come within feet of you and would attack anything that came near them. I released them all. I also caught perch, smallmouth and largemouth and crappie in the same area. I was fishing the south fork area.

we also went to pineview last week. caught a lot of dink perch around 50 60 of them . Too my surprise I also caught two decent size bluegill right where the perch was. caught a couple of smallmouth where the perch was to. But no crappie ( our intended target ) all fish were caught left of the boat ramp right in the weeds and grass

You can't just fish on the bottom for a fish that tends to suspend under high pressure. They may even be spawning right now. Better learn where they go and why.

I have spent every chance i get at pineveiw lately trying to figure it out, the only thing that has been consistent for me so far have been the perch, I have noticed that the bluegill haven't seemed too far away from the perch hang out, If i moved to the left or right and a little deeper from the perch dinks i would catch blue gill a little more consistently, but would still get alot of perch as well. I was there saturday evening and caught several perch, two gills, two cats, and one lmb, the bass was caught useing a top water frog, the rest were caught on a worm sent out to drift, has several hits on a senko but no hook ups.
I must say that the bass was the first time i have caught anything using a top water and it sure did get the adrenaline going, had several hits before actually hooking the one.
