New reel lube?
#1
Ok I have a new Sonora 5 shielded bearing reel

today we went fishing I asked my friend to hold the reel while I fixed the hook next thing I know the rod is floating about 15 feet down river....

so I have two questions

can reels get wet? I know this sounds stupid since its fishing and water but is it ok to get the reel wet?

its all aluminum so I know it wont rust, but will it affect performance or the bearings?

also what lube can I buy that's safe for the fishies and does a good job at making the reel smooth?

I wash my rods and reels after each trip on the big salt pond. I often get caught in the rain on fresh water. They work fine. Just do regular maintance like grease as needed.

Ardent Reel butter works great. They make a reel cleaning kit you can get at cabelas or gander mountain for around $20.00.

it is one thing to get rained on, and another to get dumped in the bottom of the boat or lake where there is sandy water,

in the lake or sandy water in the bottom of the boat, this means stop using emediatly untill cleaned.

there are micro sand and silica in most fresh water lakes.
