Dworshak smallies
#1
We're going camping down to Dworshak reservoir in a couple of weeks and i was wondering if anybody could offer some tips for getting into smallmouth. I'm taking some Senko worms and a bunch of 3 and 4" grubs, is there anything else i should pick up before heading down there? Looking forward to fishing some new water and hopefully i can hammer some fish! thanks!

[blush] i am a new fishergirl but no one seems to want to help you but i will. try salmon eggs on a 8 hook with a bobber. i caught bluegill, trout ( big ), a yellow fish with stripes and a smallmouthed bass. he wasn't too big maybe a foot or so but he really enjoyed the salmon eggs. i placed a few in his mouth when i put him back in the lake cascade. he really seemed to appriciate it . i hope this helps. the eggs i use have a green lid i think it is called paluski eggs? have fun................[Image: bobwink.gif]

I've never fish Dworshak, but cranks are usually on the list when going for smallies.

Never tried Senko worms, but I have had pretty good luck with 3-5" grubs. I like the jig heads with a colorado blade attached to when using grubs.

Good luck.

Dark colored tubes with chartreuse tips, and drop shot rigs with smallish brown or green worms work well there too.

Evelynn,
Avery took your advise and tried some of those "paluski eggs" down at the river this weekend. He managed to catch a couple fish. You have any idea what they are?

Thanks,
Rod

I'm not an expert like Evelynn, but I say they look like the Common Crested Paluski Suckers.

Oh maybe he does has some fisherman in him. They would be some kind of tuna, Albacore Tuna to be exact. The run was larger than expected so F&G dumped some in the Boise river. You guys need to go get a few, they love them eggs. [cool]

not sure what we did wrong but fishing didn't go very good this weekend! fished saturday and this morning and we only got about 7 or 8 smallmouth the biggest being about 10 inches. we covered a lot of shoreline in search of fish but even the little squeaker bass weren't cooperating. Kokanee fishing was good but they were pretty small so we didn't spend much time fishing for them. its an awesome place with plenty of space to get away from everybody but hopefully the next time we can hook some more fish!

It's not always about the fish. The scenery alone is worth it! Thanks for the report.
