Flaming Gorge Camping?
#1
Headed to the Gorge this weekend, will be fishing from a boat on the Utah side, any tips, advice would be appreciated....I really would like some help finding a camp ground with good shade and showers for tent camping. I normally just camp along the shore, but will have the women with us and they are particular about the amenities. I have a 12 ft aluminum boat, so can't make it to the boat in camp grounds.

Showers? While camping?

Solar showers are all I know of in that area unless your in a full on campground.
Which area will you be in? North, South, or Lucerne?

Mustang Ridge has showers and lots of trees for shade. Easy access to the boat ramp and good fishing in the mornings before wind and "big" boat traffic picks up.

That's what I was going to suggest.
There are showers and the small stores at Dutch John can at least get ice cream at. A decent dinner can also be had at the Red Canyon Lodge out by the visitors center.

The big cove that Mustang Ridge sits on can be very good fishing on the south side across from the campground and easy to reach in a 12' boat. If it is a calm morning you can try jigging the deep water out between the islands by the dam for lakers. Look for a drop off from 80' to over 100' of water and fish along the top of that shelf. When the wind starts blowing even the slightest, get the heck out of there with a boat that small.

I really like Deer run campground close to boat launch on dutch john side. if you get camp numbers 16 17 18 you can have plenty of shade. it is a fairly new campground and has showers and flushing toilets great for women. My wife is pretty picky about stuff like this and she gave it a two thumbs up. You usually have to book ahead of times but they do have first come campsites too. just not sure about the shade on them

Yeah I know, it's not something I normally worry about. I have a cheap solar shower that works fine for two people, but with six people going it gets old re-filling it. I am up for anything, I have never had problems finding fish on that lake. Thanks for the info...

I used to take the family up every year for a few days and we'd camp in the KOA at Manilla. It has showers, a pool, and is close to several ramps we would launch from.
