Mantua Loaded!

Took my oldest son shore fishing this morning on Mantua.

Ended up catching 2 bass for every bluegill! Easily caught 50 fish over 6 hours.

They were pounding small rapalas and green beetle spins.

That's what I like to hear!! I'm heading up there in the morning, taking my dad, hopefully it's still hot when we get there.

I don't know how it couldn't be. We were even catching in that overflow pond on the east side. Caught a few modest bass and some really fat bluegill in there.

White worked well, too. Dark colored grubs/plastics weren't doing a thing, FYI.

Hmm that sounds like the exact opposite of last week when I was there. Dark blues and Purples were killing and I couldn't catch a thing on light colors.

Crazy. Are you shore fishing or boat fishing?

I was (I believe, per your advice) on the east side, just to the north of where the hill comes out to the lake.

Didn't get so much as a strike on black with yellow stripes, burgundy with white tail, or purple.

Green killed, white was good, and yellow with black stripes did okay. Straight and curly tailed were working... Had spinners attached to the plastics.

I was fishing finesse worms. Maybe it's a different story than with the grubs and the spinners that you were using.

Not near as hot today where I was fishing. Fished from 5:30 to 10 only landing 3 bass and a sun fish. My dad landed 2 bass. We both caught one each worthy of a picture and the other 3 were all about 10". All were caught on darker colored finesse worms and ribbon tails. No action on perch colored rapalas, or light colored roadrunners.

Yeah, I was out there from about 4-9:30pm. I lost my green beetle spin, too!

I was . I didn't really start catching till the sun went behind the mountains - and then things picked up a bit. Caught about 15 smallish bash and that many green sunfish and bluegill.

Nothing like the day prior. Must've been because of the morning hours or because of the storms.

I might take my kids out for one last go this afternoon or evening...
