Pearl Lake
#1
Hiked into a nice little lake on Friday just north of Payette Lake (north of McCall) to the east of Warren Wagon road - Pearl Lake. A little over 7 miles in on the forrest road, followed by about a 1.5 mi or so hike with the float tubes and waders on our backs. Weather was great on Friday and the cutthroat were very accomodating to both wets and dries for both myself and my fishing buddy. Turned off cold on Sat, so timed it right for the Friday hike. Nice little hike, trail was better than anticipated, and good cutthroat fishing to boot. Can't ask for more.

Sounds like a great little lake. By any chance did you take any pictures?

It was a perfect little lake for float tubing. I've attached a few photos for you - my fish pics are never very good since I take them with one hand while holding my fly rod in the other. I like to keep the fish in the water to release them (unless I keep one for the grill).

Pretty little lake. Thank you for sharing your adventure.

You should post over on the float tubing and fly fishing boards also.

What kind of tube do you pack in? Is it very heavy?

I packed in with the Trout Unlimited equivalent of a Classic Accessories Kennebec - I partially deflate and fold the pontoons and back rest and then strap it on the back of my internal frame pack. It weighs a little over 12#, but really is not designed for packing. A little too much bulk. My fishing partner (pic) was packing in with a lighter tube - Uboat design - that weighed about 8#, but I cant tell you what it is. It did fit nicely over his external frame pack and was a lot more streamlined. I think one of the better tubes for packing is the Classic Accessories Togiak - it still weighs about 12#, but has less bulk, has straps, and might fit between the trees better. I'm just one of those guys who usually doesn't replace something until it breaks - and, in spite of hanging up in the garage for years, it still holds air!

Nice report and pics. With a lake that pretty, the fish are just a nice bonus! Mike
