Renegade Point October 15th
#1
Hit the berry this morning. Went over to Renegade point, my first time fishing there. The boats were out in huge numbers today. The weather was great, the water stayed calm til 12:30.

Right off the bat leaving the Marina I hooked into three cuts each 19" . I was using a white minnow fly on my medium sink fly line. I was dragging in behind my 12 foot boat with electric trolling motor. We weren't moving to fast, but found as soon as I would give the flt some action, a fish would hit. My boy was using a Lucky craft pointer and didn't get a single hit. I was shocked, since everybody says this is the hot lure. My brother had fast sink fly line with a heavily weighted white streamer. He also did not get a hit in the morning. We went an hour without catching anything. I tried the tube jibs, but didn't have any success. I have never used that technique and I am sure that had something to do with it. Later my brother caught another slot cut, and I a rainbow.
The fishing had really dropped off after the sun heated up. Others we talked to seemed to jave done ok, but nothing great. I wonder if the warmer weather has slowed down the bite they had earlier in the week.
Anyone else have a report for today?
Obviously the fish must have moved deeper when the water warmed up. How do you fish it at that point?

When the water cools some more, they will crush that Pointer 78, and the tube jig too ;0) Fred K.

yeah, thats what I heard. I was under the assumption the water has cooled and the fish were shallow. But I guess it still needs a couple more weeks.

I was over that direction also using a minnow under a bobber and an amber colored curly tail jig and a hula jig. Caught 10 or so on the minnow and 17 with the jig, one over the slot, one under and one 15 inch bow. A few broke me off and missed a few with the jigs. 16 to 20 ft. of water. Fish were active all day for us.

I got to learn how to use these tube jigs. Are you anchored up or drifting while fishing? How do you retrieve the jigs?

There are a couple ways that work pretty well for me on those tubes. One, is to find the depth where the fish are hanging and vertical jig it. Two, is to cast and retrieve, trying different retrieve techniques. When casting them, i will usually have a pretty quick retrieve coupled with a two jerk rhythm that will make the tube seem a bit sporadic. And, sometimes you will get 'followers' all the way to the boat. If you happen to see this, stop your retrieve and the jig begins to sink and they'll just lerp it up, Hook set! [Wink] Oh, and i'm usually anchored up. I'm sure everyone has their own way, and i dont think you can find a 'right or wrong' way to fish. Just find what works for you and have a blast with it.
